No notification about update to Joomla 3.3 version

Despite the fact that Joomla 3.3 is available for long time, the Joomla 2.5 updater stubbornly tells that You have the latest version of Joomla. From early Joomla 2.5, we have one-click Joomla Update feature. Unfortunately, Joomla Update doesn't work correctly sometimes and can't detect any new available Joomla version.

Here is the step by step guide for fixing not detecting available Joomla! Update:

  1. Login into your Joomla Admin, go to Components > Joomla! Update
  2. You will see "Option" button on the top right corner, click that button to open window with few options.
  3. In field "Update server" select Short Term Support (This is the current text - it may be different in the future) from the drop-down for Update server, then click Save & Close button.
  4. Then navigate to  Extensions > Extension Manager > Update
  5. You will see "Purge Cache" green button on the top right Joomla toolbar, please click that button to clear the CMS Update cache.
  6. Probably after few seconds you will see notice "Purged updates, 1 disabled site was enabled".
  7. As always, make sure that you done a full backup (database & files)  before performing any CMS updates.
  8. Now if you want to make a mini migration you can go back to Components > Joomla Update form. If the Joomla updater has been changed to look for the short term release, you should see the latest short term version of Joomla 3.3 (or 3.4) available for you to download.
Then click "Install the Update" button to enjoy the latest Joomla release after while.

  9. If all goes well, you will get to a totally new template (called "isis") for the back-end administrator panel.
  10. To be sure that everything is okey go to Extensions > Extension Manager > Database and click Fix button.
  11. Don't forget to update also all addcional language files.

I hope that you enjoyed reading this small tip. Please read also my previous guide in this topic - which can help you do a migration from J25 into J3.3.
