SP Page Builder (Pro) 2.x

Introduction

SP Page Builder 2.x is a complete solution for building a stunning Joomla website in no time. With the brand new front end visual editing ability, now you can develop or re-design your Joomla site faster than ever. Current version 2.x is completely new software, it was rewritten from almost zero to provide the best quality and fast code.

Technical requirements

It is strongly recommended that you always use the latest stable version of Joomla! to ensure all known bugs and security issues are fixed. The extension will function properly only on Joomla 3.6 and newer versions.

To prevent problems with used code and software installation please use following technical requirements for SP Page Builder (Pro):

  • PHP 5.6 or PHP 7.0.x
  • MySQLi 5.5+  (Joomla is not yet compatible with MySQL 6.x.)
  • PostgreSQL 9+
  • Allow Url Fopen - ON
  • Magic Quotes GPC - OFF

SP Page Builder will not work properly with older PHP 5.3 and 5.4. Users of this PHP release(s) should upgrade as soon as possible, as they may be exposed to unpatched security vulnerabilities.

  • PHP memory_limit = 64M  (in most cases can be changed in php.ini or .htaccess file)
  • PHP upload_max_filesize = 8M or more

How to install SP Page Builder

The first step, if you want to use PRO version you have to order a subscription plan: DEVELOPER for template users or any from SP Page Builder section. Then you will be able to download a PRO version from our site.

Download Lite Version    Download Pro Version

  1. Download the component from our download section.
  2. Then Log into your Joomla Dashboard. In the top menu, hover over Extensions and then click Extension Manager.
  3. Under Upload Package File, click Browse and select the component that you downloaded above.
  4. Then click Upload & Install.

If the host web server has ZIP support enabled with PHP, it is possible to upload a zipped (.zip) SP Page Builder package file that will be installed by Joomla! back-end default installer. The installation process for Joomla extensions is the same as the one for templates:

After the SP BP component has been installed, you are presented with a message saying that the installation process was a success. It means also you can use it for your new project.

NOTE: There is usually an upper limit to the size of files that can be uploaded to the web server itself. This limit is set in the PHP configuration file (php.ini) and may differ between web servers and web hosts. The limit cannot be altered from within Joomla!. Some hosting companies do not allow the limit to be altered at all. To allow larger files to be uploaded it will probably be necessary to increase the upload_max_filesize, max_file_uploads and the post_max_size settings - mostly in php.ini file or in hosting panel. Values must be above 5 MB for each.

How to update SP Page Builder

Sp Page Builder can be updated or upgraded like any other Joomla extension just by installing a new version on the current one. Is by no means different than installing the component. You do not have to uninstall the previous version; in fact, you MUST NOT do that. We strongly suggest to make a backup of whole MySQL database before that. This step is important especially if you are planning  to upgrade from Free version into Pro (commercial) version or older versions.  We recommend using free backup component for Joomla! like Akeeba Backup. When upgrading from FREE to Professional you usually have to install the Professional package twice, without uninstalling anything in between. Sometimes Joomla! does not copy some of the files and folders the first time you install it.

If you have installed an older version of SP Page Builder lower than 1.2, for example, 1.0.9 - please upgrade first to 1.4 version if possible.

Clear Cache

Some javascript used for a new version of a component was modified, however, the browser being used is still using the old cached version of the javascript which no longer works. Be sure to clear your browser's cache and your Joomla! cache.

Back-end broken after update

The SP Page Builder (Pro) 2 admin dashboard is displaying without CSS. The toolbar and all the button are not arranged properly, broken after upgrade to version 2.x and it look like on below screenshot. If yes, please follow reading.

After SP Page Builder update to 2.x from previous version 1.4 please :

  1. Clear Joomla! cached files: System -> Clear cache -> Clear All  (or only SP Page Builder element from list).
  2. Clear your default browser cache. Just clicking the refresh button (or hitting F5) won't be sufficient in this case, because this reloads the webpage while still using the old files from the cache. You need to use a "force refresh" (!). You can achieve this by pressing the following key combination:
    On PC: Ctrl + F5
On Apple MAC: CMD + R
Those steps are important for updates from older version to current one. They help CMS to get the latest javascript and CSS libraries from component.
If addons in back-end aren’t displaying correctly, you can try using your browser’s incognito or “private browsing” mode to see if the problem is caused by something other than cache or cookies.

Note! Please do not uninstall current version because you may lose your page entries or crash PB tables.

Front-end broken after update

If your front-end after update shows only white (blank) page please follow this procedure:

  1. Make sure that you have PHP 5.6 or 7.0.x set for your domain/server.
  2. Refresh/Clear whole browser cache then check site again.
  3. In Joomla! Global Configuration > Server (tab) > Error Reporting : Maximum - it will allows you to see all error messages, not only blank screen like you have probably now.
  4. Make a default template override check list. If your current template overrides for SP Page Builder addons or other views, note that out of date template overrides often cause SP PB not working correctly. If you encounter any issues, especially front end issues, you need to delete addons folders first : templates\YourTemplateName\sppagebuilder\addons\HERE(!)
Always ask your template provider to keep template overrides up to date with latest SP PB versions.
  5. Make a simple test:  Install Helix3 template, then set it as a default one and check your front-end on it. If it's ok, it means that it's something wrong with template overrides.

How to use Google Map addon

Since June 2016, Google Maps requires a special Google Maps browser key. Without this key, you cannot display Google Maps on your Joomla! website. The first step is Options (top right button) -> Options tab , where you have to put your Google Map API Key - created for a used domain name. Get your API key from here

If used API is OK, you can now add and use gmap addon around the whole site.

If you have trouble displaying Google maps on your site, please verify that the Google Maps Javascript API is enabled in the Google Maps API Manager.

How to fix JUser: :_load: Unable to load user with ID

If you see this error while seeing a SP Page Builder Page in the back-end of your site, it means the user associated to that item was deleted. There are multiple fixes for this issue but some of them require using a PHP MyAdmin  – we prefer only 100% universal and safe solutions. In Page edit view please click "Options". Find Author and click blue icon with profile icon. Then choose different user from list and Save changes.
