After huge investigation no clue found. I have doubt about the virtuemart update. Cause, I have checked the quickstart packa and it works fine. It contains virtuemart version 3.8.4. But, you are using 3.8.8.

So this is not a virtuemart problem, but a Sp Virtuemart Ajax Search problem because there is something to update into your module to continue working with the last virtuemart version.

Problem solved: "SP Virtuemart Ajax Search module" must be associated to a "VirtueMart Category Layout" menu type and not to a "Search" menu type.
