SPPB V4.x And Helix Ultimate Question

Hello!

I just saw the announcement of SPPB v4. Is it something that we can upgrade from v3.x? Or we have to recreate our website using SPPB v3.x and Helix Ultimate template if we upgrade to v4 later?

I am currently developing our website in SPPB v3.x and customized Helix Ultimate template in J4.x, I guess it would take me 6-12 months to work on it so if SPPB v4 is released after that then I just wasted my time developing in v3.x.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hello

Thank you for your query. You can upgrade SP Page Builder pro to version 4 and install the new version on the current one. There will be no need to recreate everything, you won't lose your work hopefully. In some cases, during an update from the old version, you may lose access to Joomla admin area. Don't worry in that case you have to manually (via FTP) delete folder: administrator\modules\mod_sppagebuilder_admin_menu - then after update all should be OK again. In general, you can follow the steps while updating Page builder: https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/sp-page-builder/sp-page-builder-3

And, SP Page Builder 3.x series will continue to receive security patches, updates, and compatibility support for at least the next 3 years.

Note: One of the most useful features of SP Page Builder is its backward compatibility. SP Page Builder 4 is upgradable from the previous versions.

Hi Ariba,

Thank you for clarifying that. Awesome! I'll continue what I'm doing then and when SPPB v4 Beta is released then I'll update to it while still working on our site.

I hope SPPB v4 will have the feature that's been asked by the community for a long time or fix the bug that's not been fixed for a longest time. For example:

  • the media folder is hard coded to "/images", please read the Media config for the path instead of hard coding it.
  • Security/Access level to SPPB Addons. Please think of Multi-User website management instead of thinking that a website is only managed by 1 web person. Joomla has built-in system for multiuser.
  • This is just my wish but if possible, the media upload/browser, why not just use the standard Joomla media browser? So if a site is using JCE editor it can also take advantage of a full media browser UI instead of simplistic SPPB media browser. I personally hate it auto creates a year folder and put all the files in that folder. If you still love your own media browser, its fine, but let the website admin choose which media browser to use and make it as an option in SPPB Configuration. I still have to discover how the built-in medi browser work with multi-user. I'm afraid your built-in media browser will display all the media folder even to registered users.

Thanks

Jackson
