Different Helix templates layout for different pages

Hi
I have a site where i want several different layouts/design on pages. Example, the homepage should have a black background and all other pages white background. (more wishes than that, but lets keep it simple)

I have tried to make a copy (template duplicate inside joomla) of the Helix Ultimate template. Assign the new template to the homepage and change the background color to black. In the other (original) template i did set the background to white and assign it as default template.

This does not work, i have black background on all pages.

I have tried the same procedure with joomlas supplied templates at there it works ok. Is it not possible to have several duplicates of Helix with different designs?

Hi John, the main question is... where you set background color?
In custom CSS field, in custom.css file, or inside helix settings.

Hi

Just inside Helix settings, no coding or any other special setup other than two Helix templates assigned to two different menu items (articles).

Its a basic joomla installation with HU 1.0.3 nothing else installed.

I want the Article A to have a different layout (eg background color).

Hi

That's not a real solution, i would more call that a work-around. I want the hold page body to have a different color (look), the solution you show It does not affect my menu background and i have to set the background on all individual rows. I did expect it should be possible to change the complete page background in the preset custom style, but it is not.

Are the custom style shared among the different template copies? i cant find the logic in changing the values and what happens.

Indeed you have to use my method to customize bg colors and colors.
It's only few seconds more for you.

Main custom colors from Presets are inherit -- we have to fix it in upcoming updates. Sorry.

+ to change colors of header you should:
1) Use custom CSS, one extra line)
OR
2) Create custom header and then use settings.

Thats ok ... i was just going nuts as it was not working ... but if i understand you right, it is the intention that its possible to change the preset styles on each individual template ?

I ask this due to the issue if i should continue to use helix or change to another template.

Of course, it should not be inherited.

Maybe try Helix3 if somehow this small issue stops you...

I have tried Helix3 it has the same problems.

Sorry but i don't see this as a small issue. The options you have in the template are not working, it must total have slipped your quality/test measures before releasing.

For me it is a bug and that's newer for me at small issue, due to what else is not tested or not working. It does not entrust comfort in the product.

For me it's also issue, "small" because 3/4 of users use only one template - so it doesn't stop them, some others use custom css field.

I added issue to our dashboard, so I hope future "generations" will have opportunity to use this feature in full range.

About quality/test measures one fact:
How many people work in Apple, Windows, Android, Adobe - a lots of...
so why their software still have bugs, security holes, or small issues ?
From this same reasons, we are only people...

@John: Maybe you can try with Easy Layouts

@Frankowsky: about BUGs I suppose John doesn't mean that there are, as you wrote it is normal, but if they are fixed and in how many time, just it... here some examples
