Disable Social Share

Featured Lock Resolved
I solved the problem with social share icons in preview boxes with custom.css file containing,

.sppb-post-share-social {display:none;}

Now I need to get rid of the icons on the article pages (see attachment). Concerned because all social share functions are disabled and those still work! Deleting lines from share.php had no effect per this thread,

https://www.joomshaper.com/forums/disable-social-media-issues

Then all that's left is to fix articles display so they dont fill entire page. I came from frustrating experiences with T3 framework and somewhat impressed with Helix and Newedge, realized there would be a learning curve. I have some people interested in switching over to Helix frameworks, just need to get past a few issues. One business wants something like this for field reps to use on the road, and they dont want any social sharing functions at all.

Suggestion: One click get rid of social share functions

Awesome product and support, big thanks for that

Hi,
You can turn off social media sharing from blog just by clicking this https://prnt.sc/is19sz
And by disabling the default layout https://prnt.sc/is1ayx you can design your own layout without any social sharing.

-Thanks

That did remove those icons. However, I may need a workaround that will allow author to be displayed without those icons. One of my friends may buy a template, like newedge look, but he is concerned about security. He would consider the social shareing functions a security risk. Maybe for now I can workaround the issue as you indicated. When I inspect the page code I see references to pretty social, however that is not installed.

Thanks for your reply, did not occur to me that those would be tied to author/user name field.

Hi,
What you get by inspecting is from the menu. So, you can disable the menu item.
Please check this screenshot https://prnt.sc/irejo6

Somewhat, social media was disabled since install, it was one of the first things I disabled. By disabling show author the icons are gone. However, a friend wants is interested in something that is easy to use for business only. He may need the ability to show author so his employees can see who published something. The presence of social media capabilities concerned him due to possible privacy/security concerns.

Informed him that we can work around this by disabling author (per your previous post) not sure if he likes that idea. Might be easier to find a template/framework without any social media built in to it. I have inspected a lot of the files associated with Newedge and Helix 3 and I can see that social is tightly integrated. I can see that it might be very difficult to remove any possibility that social sharing/media could accidentally be enabled.

I have been around Information systems since the punch card/reel to reel tape days. Since then I have seen many changes and have that social sharing can be a very bad security issue.

Last year a sheriff was having burglary issues in a small town. When he told me what was going on I saw the same pattern he did. Shortly after people left on vacation they would get robbed. Social Media, specifically Facebook was the problem, people do not realize that what they post can be used against them.

I am very pleased to see that you all support and reply to those of us with issues. Your help has been top notch.
I am thinking that we I need may require major rewrite of the entire template. I may have to look for another template/framework that is better suited for internal business needs, both on and off the web.

Big thanks for all your assistance

Regarding Helix Ultimate,

Is social media sharing turned on by default?
Is page builder included with the framework/template?

I am thinking I might be able to help him design something using Ultimate, from the ground up.

Hi,
Helix ultimate is our free product and it's fully functional with page builder. But page builder isn't our free product.

Thanks, answered my own question by installing Ultimate, excellent work on that. I paid 59.00 for the personal 3 month plan, therefore I need to pay another 49.00 to upgrade Page Builder to pro fro use with Helix Ultimate, is that correct??

I am very pleased with product and support, will be posting articles recommending Joomshaper highly. Still figuring out the framework.
