Google Maps and Open Street Map - Opt In For DSGVO / GDPR

Featured Lock Resolved Task
Hi,

it's not allowed anymore to show a Google map or Open Street map directly after loading a page. There needs to be an "Opt-In" for that. So we all need to show a hint like "Click to see the map" before the map connects to the Google or Open Street Map.

This is a very important task. Many customers otherwise violate the DSGVO / GDPR.

Many Thanks

Ingo

Hi,
From what country you have that you have so much strict law?
It's a bit ridiculous especially if we talk about Open Street Map.
I cannot promise you anything now. Users from NL, FR, PL - never asked for this.

So maybe use just Screenshots from maps.

Alternative solution
Install GDPR extension which block all cookies, extra connection before user will not click Accept button. I think it's the only a reasonable solution for today.

p.s.
Out of curiosity, I will ask:
Maybe you have maps from DE provider. Which should be legal, hmm?

Excuse me,
if you use Leaflet, or openstreetmap.org, the data will be loaded from a server in GB (third country from 2019), the IP addresses will be logged AND also a cookie will be set. According to DSGVO, these are personal data that may not be sent without the consent of the user.
Best regards
Ingo

First DE webmasters had problems with Google Fonts, then Google Maps, then YouTube/Vimeo, CDN, now even with OpenStreets...
what would be next? Dark Stone Age
----
All I can suggest for today is:
1) Use screenshot from map - image hosted on your site
2) Search Map service made & hosted in DE

p.s.
I added that request to our dashboard.

Good to know:
Windows also connect with USA and send private data, even more than IP.
Apple - it's like bridge, almost all your private data are stored outside DE. You cannot say no.

But sure they are not-touchable, it's much easier to sue a little webmaster.

GDPR is completely overkill, but German webmasters get mail from lawyers with warnings.

Yes, as always DE lawyers are brave only against citizens. Sad.
---
On last JUG (Joomla User Group) Meeting we talked about GDPR in relation on other products used more common than websites, and the conclusions are sad, full surveillance by device manufacturers and the government.
(Following...)

PS: Nice to have different map solutions from Joomshaper, unfortunately not usable in Germany.

Maybe a screenshot of the map, if German developers cannot create their own map service.
