Helix Ultimate - Multiple Layouts

Featured Lock Resolved Issue
In Helix 2.0 I could create multiple layouts for a site, in Ultimate this feature is gone.

So here's my scenario:

I have a web site for an NGO -- within the single Joomla instance, we house both their main web site, and also a sub-site for their annual conference (and a few other micro-sites).

These sub-sites have a different branding and page layout. I had hoped to use HelixUltimate for these sub-sites, but I'm not clear how I can do this since when I install HelixUltimate, and create a custom layout, that is the only layout available.

If I duplicate the template, will this allow me to create a separate Helix style/layout for my sub-sites? Is this the right way to do it?

Aha maybe my issue is copying a template STYLE rather than copying the TEMPLATE. What's the best practice when you want multiple templates on a single site with Helix Ultimate... should you make multiple TEMPLATE STYLES or multiple TEMPLATE COPIES?

Of course to make multiple TEMPLATE STYLES. If you do TEMPLATE COPIES, everything will get worse, since you will have duplicates of all js libraries and css. All this will be buggy. Even renaming a template does not give 100% success. After renaming, there are a number of glitches with the joomla core. For example, such a glitch as not being able to assign a template from a menu item or spontaneous resetting of all associations with menu items.

Your problem is that you are using Helix Ultimate. But it is still very raw. Working with Helix Ultimate requires constantly finding workarounds or large css coding. There are no similar problems with Helix 3

Hi,
yes, use template duplicates.

I've tried this approach but I find if I make adjustments to the duplicated template via the backend template options - for example change the header height - it makes the same change to the default template!

Hmm, I played with template duplicate clone, and each of them used different Header height.

Do not focus on the template preview in the backend. It does not work properly. All changes, see only in live view. After making changes to the backend, you need to clear the joomla cache every time. Alas, all these are big drawbacks of Helix Ultimate.

It only works when I do a full browser refresh which obviously people don't expect to do all the time.

So compare http://www.caymanactive.com which is supposed to have a 60px height header to http://www.caymanactive.com/esc which is supposed to have a 100px height header... you can look at either with a clear browser and it looks as intended - but then if you navigate to the other one it holds the setting from the prior page under you refresh the browser again!

I'll only leave my site like this for a few hours in the hopes you can see what I'm talking about.... as it's a live site I will revert back to both templates having the same height soon.

If you can think out of the box, you can have & use separate custom CSS file for each template copy
