Homepage layout - menu item type

Featured Lock Resolved
Joomla adds a black content background to the homepage even i don't have any content on it.
I only need a slideshow homepage and few custom modules on the homepage.
I am using the featured articles menu item type for the homepage, but I don't have any featured articles.
I firebugged that the black bar is shown because <div class="blog-featured"> on the homepage.

Is there a menu item type in Joomla that I only see the modules I have assigned to that page?
If not, is there way to prevent Joomla adding module positions to the page if there's no content in that position.

I don't think so, but you can set the visibility of the container to hidden.
Just add ".blog-featured {visibility:hidden;}" to your template.css
