Hi,
you know know javascript - it should be possible but in general.
I never thought that slide direction is "so" important.

Which JS file controls the direction?

Normally I would agree but i have some images that have a front and rear and at the moment they are 'backing' into view.

So in this situation I suggest to use slide module which has a option to change direction of animation.
But if you know a JS please check assets\js\sppagebuilder.js in component folder.
