However this has NOT resolved the issue - I still have font issues with the third and 5th items in the carousel -

Why is the carousel not working independently is loaded the required font? What if I want to have different fonts on different landing pages with different carousel?

Probably because you forced fonts for other HTML tags.
This is normal, in some Quickstart in past we used this same method
