No Editor in Some Areas

Featured Lock Resolved Issue
I am finding that in some of the addons where text can be added there is no editor. For example in Flip Box for the two text areas to add front and back text I have to write everything out in HTML. Is there some technical reason why we cannot have a text editor for all text blocks?

Hi,
it was planned since beginning. Because we assume that aware web developers know the basics of HTML and this method is safe because TinyMCE/JCE editor would not cut of any line of code.

For example in many many cases :

<i class="fa fa-trash"></i>

is deleted by editor as a empty tag, which is not, right.

No its not right and I know where you are coming from. Thing is this is why I use JCE, because aside from the fact it blows TinyMCE out of the water as an editor it can be controlled to not strip this sort of thing out.

The bigger issue for me is I am building sites for clients who want to make their own edits and dont know HTML/CSS and was one of the reasons I chose PageBuilder so they can still have the ability to create some fantastic content without a web designer. The number one reason anyone uses a page builder tool like this is because it dumbs it down, gives more flexibility and ease of implementing advanced features on the fly and by your own sales pitch "Whether you're a beginner or a professional, it lets you build a site independently!" this notion that you want to tell me right here that you assume those that use your tools know basics of HTML does not align with the idea you built it for beginners, so which is it? Are you really marketing to beginners, because it sure as heck does not boast well with missing functionality like this.

My take on it is this, at least give us a setting that we can enable the editor if we want. Trust me when I tell you that a beginner is not even going to know something like <i class="fa fa-trash"></i> is available, let alone use it and in those cases where they do they are going to reach out to someone like me to help them, regardless I use JCE and it can be configured to leave these classes alone and not strip them out. If not I suggest removing "beginner" from your sales pitch because things like this are proof that you DON'T!

I don't understand, you can still use JCE but not there.
But anytime You can customize addon code, it's only few moments.

Override \addons\flip_box\admin.php
inside your template.

and there change "textarea" in two places:

'front_text' => array(
'type' => 'textarea',
(...)
'flip_text' => array(
'type' => 'textarea',

change into "editor"

'type'=>'editor',

Is now OK?

Thanks for this Paul, I was not aware I could override PageBuilder and I hate hacking the core of any extension because it leads to headaches down the road when they get updated. I will plug this in and see if I can get it working. Thanks for the great support!

Still does not boast well for the disclaimer Pagebuilder works for the beginners alike...;)

Tried your way and the default way that Joomla docs says to setup the override and no joy. Here are the combinations I used, maybe you can see what I am doing wrong.

administrator/isis/html/com_sppagebuilder/addons/flip_box/admin.php

administrator/isis/html/addons/flip_box/admin.php

administrator/isis/html/flip_box/admin.php

isis - is Joomla ADMIN (!) template.

But you were very close.
Override in FRONT-END template.

Tips are here: https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/sp-page-builder/sp-page-builder-3#how-to-tips

Yea I tried that first with no success so figured it had to be in the admin template. Regardless I followed the instructions on the documents and still no joy. For sake of it I edited the file directly in the component and it worked fine there. So must be something with the template I am using why the override is not working? However I just purchased Extra Addons PRO Standard by Warptheme.com, installed it an it works fine. Just not able to get this to work for the flip_box for some reason?

Yea I have concluded it has to be something with the framework i am using. I am reaching out to the developer to see if we can figure out what the deal is.

Yes, there are fences which we cannot jump over.

Hi, I am wondering the exact same thing. Why not just add a global setting or setting somewhere so we can use an editor in this text area?

Thanks

Dave I hope you know that without details I cannot help.
If you have JCE editor 2.6.36 - the editor should be instead TinyMCE.
But some addons like Raw HTML or FlipBox have only HTML field.

I was also talking about the flipbox. It was strange to see this being the only text area in your extension without the editor. People will want to format the text, my clients don't know HTML, nor do I want to type it out either.

Why specifically is it like this. Can't we just get an option to have it or not? The Joomla editors all have a code view. Not getting the logic here.

It big logic, because in many cases TinyMCE or JCE remove font awesome icons if they are added like
<span class="fa fa-home"></span>
<i class="fa fa-home"></i>
---
Just make changes as I presented in tips above. And it will be sorted out.

Thats the thing Paul, JCE can be setup to NOT strip out font awesome icons and in fact it has this built into it as well.

JCE editor have different forum for support. I am pretty sure that Ryan would help you solve this puzzle.

We still need you to have the option for the editor. JCE will not add an editor option to SPPB for us.

Raw HTML addon sometimes is the only choice.
Because we cannot change behavior of editor.
