Quality and compression of photos

Featured Lock Resolved Issue
Just a question as I thought I had read where SP3 handles compression for you.

When using photos for headers, should I be compressing the jpg myself before loading the image?

Cause my images are large and they are taking forever to load.

Thanks much.

Hi,

Yes, of course. You have to compress and reduce resolution of all images before using them inside SP Page Builder.

Image editor is planned, but when Joomla 4.x will be stable. Then we will be able to use his engine for it. Not sooner.

I had read where SP3 handles compression for you.

I am 99,99% sure that you haven't read it inside SPPB 3 Feature page nor Manual. And 2nd should be your "bible", not ... I've read somewhere on forum...not trusted source.

Hi Paul

If page builder does not make any kind of compression, can chrome itself be the culprit of the differences on the image bellow?

comparação-q40esq-(site)--q50-centro-(site)-q50dir-(pse-browser-preview.jpg

All done on photoshop elements 11, save for the web, jpg progressive

on the left : quality 40, uploaded to the web site on localhost xampp, web site opened chrome

on the center : quality 50, uploaded to the web site on localhost xampp, web site opened chrome

on the right: quality 50, direct preview from photoshop elements 11 on chrome

This last image (direct preview from photoshop, on chrome).
definitely as much more detail than other two, although it is
the same quality 50 as the center one.

What may be the origin of this difference (right image vs center one) ?

Thanks in advance,

Miguel

Each browser interprets the graphic file slightly differently but in general nobody pays attention to it.
Only people who have an expensive monitor (and good eyes) can see the details.

---
SPPB just display image, simple html code.

Ok Paul

But, as I said, all three images are rendered on chrome (so, same browser).

Right and center ones uploaded to the same website displayed on chrome (on localhost).

Left one, the best, displayed on chrome directly from the image file itself (no website).

So, following your point of view, same browser, same interpretation.

And... There are big (in fact noticeable for good monitors and eyes) difference between left image and center one (both same quality).

If it's not the browser it's what ?

Thanks again

Unfortunately, but I don't know the answer to your question (theories)
Maybe ask on Official Joomla Forum or Forum for webmasters
I don't see relation with our software
