Save not working in front end editor

Featured Lock Resolved Issue
Hi,

When using the frontend editor, I am not able to save changes. Please see this screencast: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqVFFs3qAA

After clicking save, it just hangs.

This is a basic Joomla installation, v. 3.9.2, running on php 7.1.26
The only other components installed are Akeeba and Widgetkit.

Please advise. The frontend editing was the most appealing part of the program.

Thank you,

Karen

I have tried this front end editor in Safari and Firefox developer edition: they both behave the same as shown in Chrome on the screen recording.

I also discovered that I can edit an unaltered page template. I created a couple new pages and imported a page template from the builder option and I am able to save changes on those pages.

I've also cleared cache, cleared expired cache, cleared browser cache.

Hi,

I'm new to Joomshaper and SP Page Builder (less than one month). The issue with pages not saving while using the front-end editor is holding me back and I need to decide whether to continue using SP Page Builder. Any assistance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to move forward with these products but first need to make sure they will work as demonstrated. I've been postponing a new site build pending a reply but really need to keep moving. With this new site, I was making an attempt to switch from YooTheme Pro and so for now, I just need some info about the issue so I can figure out whether to stay with YooTheme or if it's safe to switch to Joomshaper.

I did see a post that your office had limited staffing from the 18th to the 22nd, so I do understand if this post has come in at a difficult time.

Would it be possible for someone look into this very soon please?

Hi,
I have downloaded and checked your site that is working fine in localhost that means there is problem with SSL, it is blocking Page Builder resource so it can't save. May be you are using Cloudflare SSL If you are using Cloudflare please exclude Page Builder resource I hope it will work perfectly.

Thanks,
Mamun

I'm not using Cloudflare.

And there are other pages that do save while using front end editing. See the ones that were imported and unchanged, i.e. agency and fitness.

It's the home page, and the duplicates that I made of the home page that are not working. The duplicates I made in an attempt to delete items to see if that resolved things, which it didn't.

The save is still hanging. Here's what I'm seeing: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqV0hm3Tc0

I did notice this difference the other day that the home page url has this: https://mavendesignstudio-demo.com/sppage/index.php/1-home-page/edit

but others have a url that includes "component" in the url string, such as https://mavendesignstudio-demo.com/sppage/index.php/component/sppagebuilder/5-agency/edit

Would that make a difference?

Karen Dunne

I think I answered my own question on the url difference...there are other pages that do have component in the url string that are hanging on save.

Hi,
Please leave your previous page and work on new page and let me know after that. Two pages difference are first one is added to menu and second one is not added.

Hope you understood.

Thanks,
Mamun

Oh, ok, got it. Yes, the page builder page called "Home Page" is the only one assigned to a menu right now.

Were you able to find the cause? I want to be sure that I don't build an entire page and then find that I can't edit it from the front end?

I've been able to solve my problem a few minutes after looking for weeks now.

I could not save anything anymore. No more pages to edit and no pages edit in the front end. Nothing was displayed!
The websites themselves were displayed correctly.
When saving, the memory character always ran endlessly and the page had to be aborted. Even saving in the template options did not work.

My solution was in the htaccess file.
There was security reasons
<IfModule mod_headers.c>
Header set X-frame options DENI
</ IfModule>

entered. A simple change from DENI to SAMEORIGIN

<IfModule mod_headers.c>
Header set X-Frame-Options SAMEORIGIN
</ IfModule>

had fixed the problem.

Karen, maybe that will help you a little bit further or will encourage one or the other to come up with a solution.
Greetings from Germany
Chris

What an effort, I'm glad you found the cause. Thank you for posting it here.

In my case, I'm not sure that kind of change would make a difference and I hope Joomshaper can take a look. I haven't even changed the htaccess file from txt to .htaccess yet. So it's still the original.

Cheers,

Karen

Hello Karen!
Hello Al!

Karen writes that she has the normal .htaccess file available after installing Joomla.
If you have these, there is no problem with saving. I tried it and the original .htaccess lets SPPB work normally.

However, it would be good if Karen once checked the .htaccess, if there might be something else there, which, for example, a program might have written into it.

I would like to add the following to my solution. Please also read my post at: https://www.joomshaper.com/forums/compression-destroys-icons-in-the-frontend?start=0#reply-177504

It's all about the icons in SPPB, but the issues went together. Ultimately, it was like that, that I could not save anywhere and had not seen anything in the front end editor. It was due to the component "SecurityCheck" which prevented saving and displaying the page.

Karen, if you should use the admin tool from Akeeba, then it may be that the .htaccess has been changed to that effect and you can not save anything like that. Are you using Akeeba's Admin Tools or just Akeeba Backup?
Or have you installed another security solution in Joomla?

Mamun and Christian:

There wasn't anything in the .htaccess file that had anything to do with security or iframes. It was the original from a Joomla installation. Cloudflare is not enabled and the SSL certificate is working normally, according to my host provider, Liquid Web.

I did talk to Liquid Web though and I believe they found the source of the issue. I have now been able to save using the frontend editor due to an adjustment they made to the modsecurity settings with Apache.

Specifically, and for others who may be searching on this topic, Liquid Web stated: "the error log showed "actions blocked by ModSecurity rule ID "30016: Generic MySQL injection protection". That rule helps provide additional protection against MySQL injections, and works in conjunction with around 3 other rules to provide overlapping protection. I have adjusted the rules so rule 300016 is not being enforced on" your domain.

Cheers,

Karen

Thanks for your video. I have exactly the same problem and have cleared all the cache, etc. One person told me to put it on a VPS but that is not possible for me and my situtation. My hosting is fine and the sites I built before did not have this issue or at least not one that occurs over and over. It appears that many are having the same issue.

Ii am still having the trouble also. I found the .htaccess and added the suggested code. As you said there was no existing I-frame code. It did not work for me. I still have the problem of it not saving. I wonder if it is module specific. Where I get the error is adding several small images (for example, thummbnails for a tv channel lineup like you see on cable tv sites) . I can add one or two of the default joomla image placeholders or a full image and save it. But if I add several the fail saves. Strangely, SPPB also adds a new irrelevant page to my pages list!!!

Is there a specific module that you are having trouble with the save function or is it generalized.

I think I am going to try disabling compression and see if that changes things. Otherwise I have no idea and I have to get my project done by Monday. Cannot do a thing if none of the work gets saved.

In the attachments, the first one will sometimes save but once I addd several it fails

Thanks,

I had already done these investigations without success. I am running apache 7.3 on Godaddy server but there is no mod-security options I panel apache options. There is no mod security option under panel security.

Since, I first posted, I finally changed to max upload from 32 to 1000 mb and I have been able to save. This may well be the simple fix to the problem that many are having. It may be shutting down save once the very low upload max is achieved. I design on my host server and not local machine.

I tried to attach a screenshot but it exceeded the upload max for the forum.

please see gator http://web.tv/channels. for the example of my page causing the problem.

The post above does have some screenshots where I as having trouble with the save locking up and just spinning.
