Unable to install -- manually create tables?

Featured Lock Resolved
There is some issue with my site's database in that the site runs fine, but installing extensions that require adding database tables gives errors.

I'd be happy to run the mysql commands from inside phpMyAdmin to create the tables for SP page builder, then running the installer, but this fails as the "update" sql commands try running on the db tables that are already up-to-date (and gives duplicate column errors, etc). Perhaps it is running the "update" sql statements because it finds that there is already the requisite db tables (that I create using the sql commands in the file under sql > install > mysql > install.mysql.utf8.sql

Those sql commands work just fine in creating the tables, which I then edit to add my jos_ type string. I think if there was a way to bypass the update sql scripts the rest of the install would run smoothly. any ideas?
