"Visible Page Adjustment" interfering with scrolling

Featured Lock Resolved Issue
Hi Friends! I love the visual page adjustments you've been adding, the latest being the padding, but this latest as made page scrolling in the front end editor very sticky. It takes 2 - 3 swipes on the trackpad to get the page to scroll. The first 1 or 2 swipes the page just bounces, and if the pointer is over a padded row, the padding area lights up. Only on the 2nd or 3rd time does it realize I want to scroll the page up or down, and does it.
Meanwhile, scrolling the page by manipulating the scroll block in the right side of the browser works perfectly.

Hi there,

Maybe you are using Firefox browser. Please try to use google chrome & if there has the problem. Please let me know. And if possible share a screencast video.

-Thanks

Thanks Toufiq!

I'd do a screencast, but the file would be huge and no keystrokes or keypad actions are shown. If need be I'll buy an app to it properly.

Anyway, I have some updates:
1. I was using Safari. Re other browsers see #5.
2. It appears that what I was experiencing was a scrolling delay of about a second – appears that what I thought needed 2 - 3 swipes, was actually a delay in action...which would explain the inconsistency in behavior
3. The scrolling delay only happens if I first click on a particular element, then swipe the trackpad to scroll.
4. The delay length is a function of page length and complexity. A shortish page with simple text like elements = no noticeable lag.
5. Same behaviour in Chrome and Opera. Firefox always scrolls immediately, but if you scroll far enough fast enough, you'll get ahead of the page rendering – the delay here thus is appearing in the form of a blank screen, which takes a second or two to fill in.

On a separate but probably related issue, padding adjustments made visually inconsistently reflected in the left side panel. Sometimes a change made visually changes the side panel value, most often not. Changes made to padding in the side panel update visually, but the visual padding value doesn't change.

Hi there,

Please share a screencast video. You can upload your video via google drive.

You can screencast via QuickTime player

This video is a crude version of screen capture, but it's the fastest way of displaying to you the sweeps on the trackpad. Scrolling is immediate until I click on a section. Then you'll see I swipe two or three times before the screen will scroll. I realize now it's not that I need 2 - 3 swipes, but that it takes about 2 seconds to react. Shorter and simpler pages = shorter reaction. Longer pages = even longer reaction.

The video is of Safari. I get the same behaviour in Chrome and Opera (for Mac). Firefox reacts in a different way: it scrolls immediately, but it quickly brings up blank screen for which you have to wait 4 - 5 seconds to for the content to render.

All browsers display the problem Pavel refers to – clicking in the toolbar on a complex page can take seconds to respond, of which Firefox is the worst, about twice as long a delay as Safari - so far I'm getting 4 second delay to react on a decent sized but not terribly long page.

It appears that both the latency in scrolling, and the lag in displaying the parameters in the side panel when the toolbar for a particular block is clicked are actually the same issue, both appearing with introduction of the visual padding adjustment feature.

For hosting I'm using a remote hosting service, but with dedicated CPU cores and RAM – it's snappy in every other respect. In theory resources aren't the problem.

However, it's sounding like you're not able to reproduce this issue yourselves. Would it be possible you are testing using in-house servers, and thus are summoning even more processing power and less than average network latency than a more common remote shared hosting situation?

I've uploaded three:

1. Demonstration of lagged scrolling in Safari (for some reason, when recording with QuickTime there is no lag on the first mouse click. There is with every one thereafter.)

2. Demonstration of lagged page rendering in Firefox (same deal here - no problem with the first click, but everything thereafter lags...)

3. Demonstration of lagged toolbar response. This one is Firefox, which is the worst. Safari, Opera, and Chrome are the same, but with roughly half the delay.
