Joomla World Conference 2016 – Event Summary

This year the Joomla! World Conference (J!WC) has happened in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 11-13, 2016. JoomShaper was a Diamond sponsor for the event. Our team attended the conference. JoomShaper CEO Mr. Kawshar Ahmed and Business Development manager Paul Frankowski (delivered a speech) were honor guest of the Joomla! event. Here is a look back at the JWC16.

The Joomla! World Conference 2016 took place at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel. According to the main plan, the event started in Friday in the morning, but the day before, there was a night meeting in close club. The journey for Canada was long and a bit tiresome. In the Friday morning, we were fresh and ready for event meetings, keynotes and presentations. In very short time we prepared our advertising stand, we also taken a lot of gifts for our guests: good quality t-shirts, wristbands and collection of stickers. Then we were able to eat fast breakfast and take our starter pack. Because every member got his bag with some stuff inside.

From Friday morning until Sunday afternoon we had meals provided by the organizers, with financial support from sponsors. The sponsors of JWC 2016 were a few companies, not all connected with Joomla!, even those that were not personally. Food and all drinks delivered by hotel service were very tasty and various, so probably everyone could find something which he/she like. We got also extra bonus cards for "stronger" night drinks. During eating together, we felt as a part of a big Joomla! Family. There were no enemies/competition – all those developers, designers, site administrators, business owners, hosting companies and community members from around the world - we all were (I hope we still are) Joomla! fans.

We enjoyed the program and break times so much. The team from JoomShaper was very happy to meet people behind the Joomla! core, 123RF, Ark Editor (WebxSolution), CloudAccess, JoomlaShine, PerfectDashboard, redCOMPONENT, Sucuri, Siteground, Techjoomla and many more.

Once again we had the opportunity to meet and talk with Sarah Watz, the president of Open Source Matters. We discussed on several ideas and thoughts about the future growth of Joomla!, the development pattern and how the CMS can be even popularized.

JoomShaper offered several giveaways in the event. We gave away a brand new Xbox One gaming console as the grand prize. The prize attracted a huge attention from the attendants. The person who got the prize got very emotional in the raffle draw win. The whole thing was really wonderful. JoomShaper always works to improve the overall Joomla user experience by contributing to efforts that aim at boosting the platform.

That's why we always have time to talk about different aspects of using Joomla!, not only strictly about our products. On Friday I had reserved time for my presentation named "Install and Play with Drag & Drop tool". There I was able to talk about some problems and how SP Page Builder component can solve them, and be a solution. On last day (Sunday) we had a chance to listen about the past, present and future of the Joomla! project. That's why we know a little bit more about Joomla! 3.7, 4.0 and X version.

Event Summary

To be honest, it is impossible to summarise the conference in a blog post but it was a fantastic event which I was privileged to attend alongside some amazing people. So thank you to everyone for coming and contributing to this event. Big thumbs up to the JWC 2016 organization team. Joomla! is all about friendship and working together.

Where next?

Next Joomla! World Conference 2017 will be in Rome, Italy. But before that, You can meet us (JoomShaper) at upcoming conference J and Beyond 2017 to be arranged in Kraków (Poland) June 2-4 2017. We’re excited to see everyone there again, so keep an eye on the both sites. Don’t miss out on this chance to build new relationships at those events. You can also take part in the local Joomla! Days and learn from industry professionals and hobbyists alike!
