Dynamic Filtering Limitation with Multi-Select Field Types

Asked by Petr Benes 10 months ago Last activity 10 months ago

Dynamic Filtering does not support "Multi-Reference" field for dynamic content.

I am utilizing the Dynamic Content and Dynamic Filtering features, which are highly useful. However, I have encountered a significant limitation when trying to filter items that have multiple associated attributes.

My goal is to allow an item (e.g., a blog post) to be tagged with multiple categories/attributes (e.g., Feature A, Feature B, Feature C) and then be able to filter these items on the frontend using those tags.

Attempt using "List" field type

The standard "List" field type only allows selecting a single item (single-select).

Limitation: It is impossible to mark an item with multiple attributes (e.g., select both "Feature A" and "Feature B").

Attempt using "Multi-Reference" field type

The "Multi-Reference" field type correctly allows an item to be marked with multiple attributes/tags from a list (e.g., I can select "Feature A," "Feature B," and "Feature C" for one item). This meets the requirement for multi-tagging.

Limitation: When I try to set up the Dynamic Filtering option for dynamic content, the "Multiple Reference" field is grayed out and cannot be selected as a filter source.

Is there a workaround or an existing solution that allows items marked with multiple attributes (multi-select) to be used as a source for Dynamic Filtering?

If not, is this a known bug or a planned feature enhancement? Allowing "Multi-Reference" fields to be used for dynamic filtering is crucial for creating robust, multi-faceted filtering interfaces.

I apologize for the inconvenience. In the current version of SP Page Builder, Multi-Reference filtering is technically supported; however, filtering by the title of the Multi-Reference items is not yet available. This limitation affects most use cases where users expect to filter items based on multiple tags or attributes, so we understand that the current behavior is not ideal.

The upcoming version will include full support for title-based filtering on Multi-Reference fields, and this update is already in the testing phase.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to deliver this improvement. If you have any additional questions or require further clarification, please feel free to let me know.
