Image Carousel Weird 'inline' Widths

Why does the width change and not in relation to the height set? It seems weird that I need to create media queries for each level to match this. The 'laptop' width changes (and upon inspection shows an 'inline' rule) before the tablet landscape height tha I set kicks in. The documentation is practically worthless.
