Choosing the Right Tools for Your Tourism Website
Choosing the right CMS is key, and Joomla delivers flexibility and powerful features. Combine it with JoomShaper’s premium travel templates for stunning, visitor-friendly designs.
To top it off, SP Booking, the premium Joomla extension, is the ultimate solution for managing travel bookings, from accommodations to tour packages, streamlining your entire booking process.
Step-by-Step Guide to Building Your Travel Website
In this section, we will make creating your dream travel & tourism website a walk in the park! Let’s dive in and get you started:
Step 1: Choose the Perfect Template
Start with a travel-focused Joomla template to save time and effort. For this tutorial, we’ll use the Travelin template, a fantastic option designed specifically for travel agencies.
Its stunning design is perfect for showcasing packages, accommodations, and much more! This comes with the SP Booking extension, making it even easier to integrate seamless booking functionality into your site.
Step 2: Set Up Categories
Let’s get your site organized! Start by defining key categories for your travel website:
Head to SP Booking > Categories and click +New to create your category.
Add a catchy title, a brief description, and an image or icon.
Save your changes and keep the momentum going by repeating the process for other categories.
This will set the foundation for a well-organized and smooth user experience!
Step 3: Add Accommodations
Nothing says “book now” like a beautifully presented list of accommodations and tours. Add detailed descriptions, stunning images, and helpful information about availability.
In SP Booking, navigate to the Accommodations section.
Click +New and fill in the details like name, location, features, images, and pricing.
Highlight star ratings, facilities, and so on to showcase what makes your accommodation unique.
Include important policies like check-in/check-out times, cancellation terms, or other guest information.
You can also include metadata to improve search engine visibility and add customer reviews to establish trust with new customers.
Step 4: Create Rooms for Your Listing
Rooms are where your listings come to life! Provide all the details your guests need to picture their stay.
In SP Booking, navigate to the Rooms section and click +New to start. Enter the room name, create an alias, and assign it to one of your accommodations.
Specify the maximum capacity for adults and children, and add a separate price point for children if needed.
Highlight the room’s unique features, and don’t forget to add a compelling description with high-resolution images to make it stand out.
List the facilities your room offers, from modern amenities to cozy extras.
Repeat the process for each room, and ensure your listings are as inviting as the experiences you offer!
Step 5: Create Coupons to Drive Engagement
Coupons can be a game-changer for boosting bookings and attracting customers. They’re simple to set up and add great value to your offerings.
In SP Booking, navigate to the Coupon section and click +New. Start by giving your coupon a name and creating a unique code your customers can use to claim their discount.
Set the discount amount, choosing between a percentage or a fixed value. If it’s a percentage, make sure to add a maximum discount limit.
Add extra flexibility by specifying the check-in and check-out times the coupon will apply to.
Choose what the coupon is valid for, such as accommodations, to make it more specific to your needs.
That’s it—your coupon is ready to work its magic and bring in more bookings!
Step 6: Create Booking Packages to Captivate Your Travelers
Packages bring together experiences that customers can’t resist! They make planning seamless and exciting for travelers.
Start by creating a Package Type. Head to SP Booking > Package Types, click +New, and give your package type a name and alias. Save it to proceed.
Next, create your package. Navigate to SP Booking > Packages, click +New, and start by adding the name, alias, and assigning it to a package type.
Set the start and end dates to define availability, then craft a captivating description. Add the right category and upload stunning visuals that catch the eye.
Include essential details like a tour overview, major activities, and what’s included or excluded. You can even add third-party reviews to build credibility.
Have something special? Use a custom field to showcase unique features that make your package stand out.
Hit Save, and your package is ready to inspire wanderlust and bookings!
Step 7: Set Up Payment Options and Start Selling!
You’re just one step away from accepting bookings like a pro! SP Booking makes it simple, with no need for external eCommerce extensions.
Head to Global Configuration in your Joomla dashboard and open the SP Booking settings.
Jump into the Payment Settings tab and pick your preferred payment methods—choose from PayPal, Pay Later, or Stripe.
Select your currency to ensure smooth and effortless transactions.
Add a personal touch by customizing email templates for everything from booking verification to success confirmations—perfect for keeping communication professional and friendly.
Save your settings, and you’re ready to deliver a smooth, secure booking experience your customers will love!

I really dont understand the booking process here. I think the most wanted feature here is the "availability check" on the rooms or apartments pages...and its still not an option if i'm right...correct me if i'm wrong though...
This plugin has so many cool features but the most important is missing...is there any chance that you guys will put that into the plugin someday?
I dont mean this to be rude or something...pls walk me through the process if i'm missing it somehow...
