SP Page Builder 4.0 Alpha 2: New Multiline or Single Line Columns Option, Performance Improvements, and More

Please note this is an Alpha release. We recommend you run this version on a test site and give us your valuable feedback.

  • Update: Improved the URL routing system
  • Update: Dropped the admin menu module

  • Fix: The row’s background video issue
  • Fix: The row’s and column’s vertical alignment issue
  • Fix: The title and subtitle’s alignment issue
  • Fix: The row/column/add-on’s UI issue on disabling
  • Fix: The dashboard’s UI issue for non-Helix Ultimate templates
  • Fix: The select field’s z-index issue
  • Fix: The add-on’s cloning issue
  • Fix: The add-on’s deletion issue
  • Fix: The Database error in Joomla 4
  • Fix: The issue happens after clicking the save button in Joomla 4
  • Fix: Other minor known issues

Flexibility to Make Single-line or Multi-line Columns

In the last release, we have introduced column resizing by simply dragging the border between two columns. Today, we have added a new option named “Fill Columns” that will enable you to make single-line or multi-line columns inside a row. If you enable it, the width of the next column is adjusted to fill the available space within the row without breaking the layout. You can also see the percentage ratio of the columns while dragging.

Notable Improvements and Fixes

Apart from making the row and column addon even more flexible, SP Page Builder 4.0 Alpha 2 is out with many fixes and performance improvements.

Let’s have a look at some of the notable improvements of this release.

Database Error in Joomla 4

In Joomla 4, you have reportedly faced database errors such as invalid data type errors for some tables. All database errors have been fixed in the latest release.

Editor Authentication

Since SP Page Builder 4.0 has dropped the backed editor completely, logging in from the front-end every time you need to edit was such a hassle. That’s why we have improved the editor authentication. Now you won’t need to be logged in from the front-end as well if you are already logged in from the backend to edit pages.

Route System for Joomla 4

Previously when a page didn’t exist, instead of showing a 404 error it used to redirect to the same page. This issue with the URL routing has been resolved in this release.

Row’s & Column’s Vertical Alignment

Easily adjust the vertical alignment of rows and columns without any issue using the Vertical Align option of the addon settings. Effortlessly align your content vertically from the top, middle, or bottom.

Please go through the changelog again to have a look at all of the fixes and improvements made in this update.

Tell Us What You Think

Your constant feedback and suggestions always help us do better. Let us know how you feel about the new changes in the comments. Keep your eyes on our blog and our newsletters for more updates on SP Page Builder 4 and releases. Happy developing!

Warning: This is an experimental build intended for testing purposes. Please don't use this experimental version in production sites!

This Alpha version is an experimental release and not ready for production sites.

So funny...youre just thinking for the people who have 1 Website and Think every new is fine. But you dont think of the companies Who Trust joomshaper for years...have built up 100+ Websites and paid for the product for years.

So what do i have to tell my clients? Stay on v3 and have an unsecure Website in 1 year because you will not Update it sometime? This answer is disqualifying for long time custumers

What's your expectation? Staying with the same architecture of the software for the next unlimited years? How are we gonna innovate? How can we add values to the software itself?
Please don't get me wrong. But, we are extremely serious about the Page Builder and we believe the new version will make everything easier. Also, 3.x is here to stay and will get security updates frequently.
Thanks

You sell 999+ sites subscription for agencies. And make product completely useless for agencies. Would' you probably ASK FIRST? Like "how are you gong to keep on supporting dozens of your customer's sites WITHOUT BACKEND?" - seriously? It means that I'll have to switch back and forth between back- and front-ends just because some stupid product manager somewhere in India is complete shithead?
This is then probably the end of joomshaper, as I already feared. You are developing completely past us - your customers.

We finance you, we know how we have to work here and what we need. if you don't respond to us, you will go down. i don't understand your stupid company psychology. Ever heard of market research... or surveys.
Instead of listening to us, you even decided to turn off the ratings for your stupid templates, so you don't see that you are producing complete crap.

Your templates had already become completely unusable and now this!

I don't want to explain to you how product development and market strategy works.

Get urgently a consulatant, who works for you customers and not past the customers like you here!

Sad.

I can only second this. The frontend only editing might be great for end users who would otherwise use squarespace. But for us as an agency it is not helpful. We are much faster creating pages in the backend. The frontend is nice, if you only modify one of your imported layouts. For creating pages from scratch it is terribly time-consuming.

Yes! You know the sentence "never change a dining Team?" What Made you Big? The reason why i have chosen joomshaper 5 years ago was the extremely easy way to build up a Website from scratch. Not to Import some prebuild Layouts...i loved the way to have a Clear View with the Backend edit...so see everything on one screen. That was also the reason why i started with joomla and not going to wordpress. It was your excellent Tool Which Made life easier for me as developer. Sppb changed my business completely. I have showed your Builder to over 100 clients till now...there are expierenced users but also complete newbies and old persons and EVERYBODY of the loved the Backend view and nearly NONE of them use the Frontend Method. You are exchanging the thing that Made you successfull what Made you special. Well but when a Chance is leaving it will open a Chance to someone else. What me and as i can see a lot of vorher users really dislike is the way you communicate to your community. Nobody asked you to drop the Backend and as you can see i dont see any developer who like your decision here...so why you are not releasing a Version where all parties wild be happy with?

I tested this Alpha 2 version. Weird as it failed in the first steps. I installed the version over the existing 3.8.2 and was successful. I tried to create a new page. After i entered the title for the page, i clicked on "save & go" and it landed in an empty page with just a dumb button "Home Page" and nothing else. No menu, options or UI. That's it.

Really weird way of providing an alpha without testing yourselves.

Ok great. Failing on the first install is bad for an Alpha but forgivable. Looking forward to next alpha. Are they including features where we can use our own icon/fonts and define CSS in a easier manner? Its a good product.

Hello JoomShaper-Team,

first of all - thanks a lot for your effort. we just had a look at PageBuilder 4 and it looks like a lot of work went into it.

Some thoughts/requests:

We also are an agency with 100+ Clients that use PageBuilder and i have to agree with kweb that the frontend-only editor will cause a LOT of problems for existing sites. However i think the new "Layers" module is neat and might solve a lot of issues we have with Frontend of PB3 (like Item is not accessible via Hover) and i guess it is somehow possible to make the transition for classical "Pages".
HOWEVER: For us Module and Article Integration with frontend-only is the KILLER. We have a lot of sites that use the article integration heavily and it would be completely frustrating to change between frontend and backend when writing articles. If frontend only is to stay, a lot of work HAS to be done: All Article options have to be available in the Builder (Introtext!!, Title!!, Publish!!, IntroImage, FullTextImage, ....) - It would be extremely unefficent to change one article in two different spots??!
The same goes for Modules - Sperating Content from Menu Assignment and Publishing is frustrating!
Do you have a solution for that?

Great to finally have a "Link"-Addon where we can select the Menu Item. Please also include the possibility to link to individual Articles - This is often needed as well.

Fantastic to have the possibility to disable addons!
Will it be possible to set default values for individual addons and rows/columns?

New "Layouts"-Section looks great - However, why not bring back the possiblity to add entire Page Layouts - For acencies like us that would be a huge benefit?

Another thought - Media Manager is also always a "problem" as we have different media managers in different spots of joomla (e.g. Helix uses another than PageBuilder, we also often use JCE Media Manager) - Do you think it would be possible to either:
-> Make the PageBuilder Media Manager accessable from every component?
-> Make an Option to select the desired media Manager in PageBuilder

Thanks for your time reading and considering our thoughts :-)

It's not that it's not working - Using frontend editor it becomes unefficient to work with, because some things hae to be edited in backend and other things in frontend pagebuilder => Thats the important issue!!

I see it the same way as kweb, I don't want to be negative about new things, but the backend is also an indispensable part of the sppagebuilder for me. parallel use between front and backend is more of a plus for the user. Both can coexist. I also think that a previous survey in the community would have made the pagebuilder even better, it is already an extreme cut in the usage behavior of your customers.

Hi,

Here are some suggestions :

1) I think it could be interesting to have the possibiltiy to enable or disable some addons or features access to users depending their joomal ACL. Ex: layouts, addons, page settings etc...

2) translations : make all the label, description etc..fully available for translations. because as I said before, I have found a lot of them hard coded. ex: for this : https://prnt.sc/zypog5

3) add an auto save when page builder is used from front-end. I had many feedback from customers because, sometimes, they forgot the timeout.

4) manage/change every page title on browser tab? ex here : https://prnt.sc/wlpfpz

Thank you

Hi Laurent, Have you tested the current version of SPPB4? About (1) all addons have the "Access" (ACL) field already, and the screenshot from (2) is from SPPB3. About (3) it's a good idea, I will ask. About (4) each page has a title field in editor. Thanks.

Hi,
Installed the new SPB 4 alpha2 on a clean Joomla 4.0.5 version, that went fine without any errors or messages. But when i tried to place my account information in the License & Update page it won't save. Same happens when i try to make a page on the front-end, it won't save.

The error that google gives is:

Hi,

Of course, it is also important to consider your target audience and maintain brand perception while trying innovations.

It's worth making this clear if this backend is not going to be at all. Otherwise, meaningless hurtful messages will continue here and it is not nice.

My opinion is that you post a separate paper for this and clarify this backend issue.

* Determine the Target Audience

Best Regards

I am a developer and without the backend, I expect that I will need to look at other page builders as my clients overwhelmingly prefer to work in the backend with article integration and are not going to be happy with front end only.

Here is a little fairy tale that inspired me the previous posts

Once upon a time, in Joomla land, a company called Joomshaper and was so snooty that they didn't bother to ask their long-time customers. They did not care about their important and big customers. They did not care to listen to the loud cries that demanded the return of the backend. In their rush for success, they forgot what made them successful. The main thing was that they released a product that would outshine everything that had gone before. But things turned out differently. They did not want to see the heavy clouds on the horizon, so blinded were they by their euphoria and pride. They thought it would only be a little storm, which would soon pass. But it came other way.The storm became more and more violent. The screams became louder and louder. But at Joomshaper castle nobody had ear for these cries. On to the contrary. They closed windows and doors, so that they did not have to hear the storm. But the storm of screams would not stop. So it came as it should come. The castle could no longer withstand the gusts and crumbled stone by stone. All they had to do was open the windows and doors so that the wind could whistle through. Then the people at Joomshaper castle would have heard how loud the screams were and would have given counter-steering, before it was too late.

Let's hope that this fairy remains a fairy. It would be a pity if Joomshaper would end like this.

But what is the saying? Hope dies in the end.

Dear Joomshaper team open the windows and doors before it is too late.

Thank you

Hello, working from the frontend is for novaros, our productivity is based on working from the backend, what's more, there are many things that are impossible to do from the frontend.
I think the same as most of your clients: without the backend editor, SP PageBuilder is just another editor among mountains of them and it is very likely that when that time comes they will stop using and recommending your products. For us and many developers the backend editor is ESSENTIAL
Are you seriously not going to listen to most of your customers who are crying out for you not to remove this feature?
Very bad strategy and a lot of shame.
Please reconsider, it is very important. I would hate to have to stop working with Joomshaper

Many times we encounter new addons in various templates which are not available in standard SPPB. Example, the login components in Wayne template is not the standard one and looks good. We tried to extract the addon and plug it into another but could not so do. All the help we got from Joomshaper people is "we do not support custom development", sigh! The SPPB 4 will be useless if these are not met and many of us will continue to look elsewhere:

(1) Joomshaper's people attitude does not change. we are not asking for custom development, we are asking for "howto" which is your duty to provide as these are missing in the templates.
(2) SPPB should provide a feature with the ability to export/import addons created specially in other templates. Alternatively, Joomshaper stop being creative in adding specialized addons in template. We dont admire you, we actually curse you for doing this.

We use all the templates and get/extract ideas and features which speeds up our work. Its terribly frustrating with addons!!!
Muntasir Sakib
Muntasir Sakib

@Ramanathan, good day! Let me make it clear for you and everyone reading this comment -

1. You asked for the process and didn't get the answer of your "howto", this is what you wanted to say, right? Shouldn't happen though, we will look after that from now on.

One thing to mention - Asking HOWTO means just asking about the process, but we often encountered something where we were asked to describe the step by step process, which we do not do, not in our support policy. I hope you understand.

2. Thank you very much for your suggestions, we will think about it.

Hello I was reviewing the SP BUILDER version 4 and I have some suggestions.

1.) They should keep the blue color, not that gradient that looks like Gray.
2.) They should add new addons
3.) It should be able to be integrated with other extensions especially e-commerce ones.
4.) They could add addons like:
4.1) Pie Chart https://crocoblock.com/widgets/pie-chart/
4.2) Vertical timeline Improve it add animation as in this link: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/vertical-timeline/
4.3) Image Comparison Slider: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/image-comparison/
4.4) Switcher: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/switcher/
4.5) Ajax Search: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/ajax-search/
4.6) Megamenu: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/mega-menu/
4.7) HotSpot Widget: https://crocoblock.com/widgets/hotspots/

That is, I am not saying that they include everything in the SP BUILDER, for the same value, they can be like an additional package, but with an accessible price, that way I think that joomla would earn a lot

Writes regarding SP4 - Are you serious about removing the function in the backend. We have about 300 sites today based on SP Page Builder. Going away from the backend is completely super wrong.

Here you MUST rethink. We who work daily with your solution do it 99% in the backend.

Is there any alternative that you suggest if you decide to shut down the backend. I am convinced that you will lose many and serious developers if you shut this down.

There are competitors out there and they usually offer both. So do this again and do it right. Keep the solution in the backend.

With kind regards, Vallagruppen
