Currency of the Helix3 template, version 3.1.2.

Asked by Denis Mone 3 months ago Last activity 3 months ago

hi
I quite often come across information stating that the Helix3 template (including version 3.1.2) is outdated and incompatible with the latest versions of Joomla. Is this true? If so, what should I do?

Thank you for your question.

The information you've seen can be a bit misleading.

The latest version of Helix3 (v3.1.2) is compatible with Joomla 4, 5, and 6, so you can continue using an existing Helix3-based website as long as you keep both Joomla and Helix3 updated to their latest versions.

That said, we do not recommend using Helix3 for new websites. Helix3 is no longer under active feature development and only receives compatibility and security updates when necessary. Our primary focus is now on Helix Ultimate, which is actively developed and receives new features, improvements, and long-term support.

If you are:

  • Maintaining an existing Helix3 website: You can continue using it and keep it updated to the latest version.
  • Building a new website: We strongly recommend choosing a Helix Ultimate-based template instead, as it is our modern framework and the best choice for future projects.

How secure or insecure is right now helix3 framework, as seen that need to update a helix ultimate plugin twice this week?

We take security very seriously. When the recent security vulnerability affecting Helix3 was identified, we released the security update as quickly as possible. As long as you are running the latest Helix3 v3.1.2, you are protected against that known vulnerability.

Regarding the two recent Helix Ultimate releases, I'd like to clarify that they served different purposes. The first release was a security update to address a reported vulnerability, while the second release was a bug fix update to resolve issues introduced or identified after the security release. Releasing a follow-up bug fix shortly after a security update is a normal part of ensuring both security and stability.

Although Helix3 receives security and compatibility updates when necessary, it is no longer under active feature development. For new projects, we continue to recommend using Helix Ultimate, as it is our actively developed framework with ongoing enhancements and long-term support.
