Because it's an extension for CMS Joomla. It is strongly recommended that you always use the latest stable version of Joomla to ensure all the known security issues and bugs are fixed. SP Medical is properly functional with Joomla 3.8 and the newest versions.

For smoother installation and to prevent issues with used code please use the following technical requirements:

• PHP 5.6 (Min), PHP 7.0.x or PHP 7.1 (suggested)
• MySQL 5.4 (Min), 5.5, 5.6 (suggested)
• 64 bit supported Server. Remember PHP 7 provides full 64-bit support.
  The x64 builds of PHP 7 support native 64-bit integers, LFS, 64-bit memory_limit and much more.
