Optimizing - Unused Google Fonts, Old JQuery And Other Things

Hi, I'm using Themis 2.0 template on J! 3.10.6

I'm tryingo to optimize my website under Lighthouse tool embeed in Chrome. I noticed render-blocking resources as follow: https://pasteboard.co/eP5aW4y1KNTK.png

I focused on google fonts and found that in source:

<link href="//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Muli:100,100italic,200,200italic,300,300italic,400,400italic,500,500italic,600,600italic,700,700italic,800,800italic,900,900italic&display=swap" rel="stylesheet" />
<link href="//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Heebo:100,100italic,200,200italic,300,300italic,400,400italic,500,500italic,600,600italic,700,700italic,800,800italic,900,900italic&display=swap" rel="stylesheet" />
<link href="//fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Muli:100,100i,300,300i,400,400i,500,500i,700,700i,900,900i&subset=latin&display=swap" rel="stylesheet" media="none" onload="media="all"" />

All fonts in template options are set to Muli family with latin subset - why it's trying to import Heebo font ans once again Muli with vietnamese subset?? Also I removed font-family declarations hardcoded in SCSS . Tried to find what part of the code puts this in, but can't figure it out.

Next thing is how to optimize rest of code and what related setting of Joomla core should be set - cache, compression, smoething other? SPPB and template are set to production mode, also template have set CSS compression

Also I get notice in Lighthouse, there is some old jQuery used: https://pasteboard.co/N7ZFMz4u3lyA.png

Should I update it?

Hi,

probably those fonts are from SP Page Builder, where used in addons etc. You can DISABLE Google Fonts from SPPB by:

  1. Edition addon one by one, and remove font chosen in Font-Family
  2. OR, in SPPB Options you can disable Google Fonts for all pages, and keep selection from Template Typography only

Hi Paul,

if I follow your suggestion 2. " in SPPB Options you can disable Google Fonts for all pages, and keep selection from Template Typography only"

....there is still the connection to google.

So if I want to deactivate google fonts completely I also have to deactivate the settings in the template settings? The suggestion you made didn't sound like that!

Thanks!

Think,

If you disable Google Fonts from SPPB - they will not be loaded from SPPB even if you have in few addons, but you can still set Google Fonts from Template Options and choose only those which you want to use and for elements you really need (Headers, chosen classes etc.).

Of course there is possibility that one of extra installed by you modules or components also loads Google Fonts that you do not need.

Hi Paul,

thank you for your repley!

I thought about it even before I asked my question :-). But maybe I'm thinking wrong and you can explain it to me again so that I understand it ;-) If I disable google fonts in the pagebuilder options and and I deactivate all font settings in the template options, then there is no longer a connection to the google fonts. But if I enable for example only the h1 heading I immediately have a connection to fonts.googleapis.com again.

So the template settings still connect to Google Fonts or am I seeing this wrong?

Thanks!
