I can understand you well and to avoid misunderstandings, I am not part of the support.
On the other hand, as a developer and shareholder, I can well understand that Joomshaper also charges something for the update.
If you had kept the license active, it would probably have been even more expensive than paying a one-time price of, say, 20$ for the update.
So my suggestion as a customer of Joomshaper is rather a compromise for both sides.
Depending on how long you have had the template, it would have been 40$ per year.
Here in Germany, such a thing would fall under goodwill.
You have used the Tempalte for a few years now and may even have made a profit with it.
Therefore, we would at least charge a small amount for the update.
I hope you can understand my approach and why I personally feel $20 is justified as a one-time price for the update.
Other companies like Sencha even force the customer to pay for the inactive time when renewing.
Example: bought in 2019 and wants to renew in 2022! 2020 and 2021 must then also be paid.
