Coming Soon Page Editing

Helix Framework 2 years ago

I have enabled the coming soon page on Helix Ultimate Edulif template.

  • how do I hide the date and time countdown
  • how do I display a login box

It's very confusing because there's also a Joomla offline? Which am I supposed to use? Which one takes priority? Can I use both simultaneously?

My site is localhost.

Could you please give me instructions on how to set my site to offline mode, because it seems extremely difficult.

Currenyly I have these settings;

  • Joomla Site Offline = yes
  • Edulif Enable Coming Soon = yes

This displays the offline page with a login box. But when I login I stay on the same page and it's still offline. The URL that I stay on is mySite/index.php?templateStyle=11&tmpl=comingsoon

Is this a bug? I've seen it reported by multiple users how difficult and confusing this process is.

Hi,

Edulif Template Options > Basic > Coming Soon = OFF

that's all, then offline mode will be used.

If you work on localhost you don't need Offline nor Coming Soon mode.

@Paul, so I shouldn't use the Coming Soon mode at all?

I do need to use both Offline and Coming Soon mode on localhost, otherwise how would I find out they don't work :)

Why do you need it, in 99% cases you don't.

Coming soon - is good only for period when you do not edit website and you want to show users, that they have to wait for premiere (count down) ... like in cinema movie premiere soon, next year etc..

offline - is mostly technical, when you want to lock site from guests, but still be allow to edit and preview.

Q: How often do you lock your kitchen from yourself? I guess, never, even you don't have key to do that. If you work in localhost, only you see your website. And maybe your pet (cat/dog) from your sholder, but that's all.

@paul

Why do you need it, in 99% cases you don't. That's not relevant. It's a feature of a commercial template, and it doesn't work.

Perhaps you should tell your developers that 99% of cases don't need it. That way it will be omitted from all future templates, thus avoiding any confused users like myself (and others).

The official Joomshaper documentation contradicts your explanation, it states;

During time of building new site, for example process of adding new content, you can hide construction stages.

In any case - thanks for this explanation. I now understand that the Coming Soon feature is completely useless. I will use Offline instead.

I don't quite understand your analogy. I lock my kitchen when I want to keep others out, e.g. strangers, and people that I don't want to allow in. Fairly standard. If I do choose to lock my kitchen, I only have one method, not two :)

If you work in localhost, only you see your website.

This isn't true. A localhost environment can be shared with others in a network, it's quite common for testing.

Thanks for your help

You are absolutely write, it's a mess that doesn't work well and there is a need for it, whether or not 99 percent of users (love to know where this figure was plucked from) don't.
