Article Edit Button Enabled In Front-end

SP Page Builder 2 years ago

Hi -

I'm running Joomla 4.2.6 and have installed the free shaper_helixultimate template to try. Then followed instructions, to purchase and install the SP Page Builder Pro component. I've added my license key and the component is appears to be working.

Before adding the Page Builder component, I formatted the site using pre-defined module positions, as best as possible.

Now, thinking the helix template version was old, I have downloaded a fresh copy and installed it. This seemed to work ok.

But all of a sudden, I have found the site menu showing 'Administrator Login' and other options not previously visible. I have unpublished these unwanted options via the menu manager.

But worst of all, now it appears that every single article on my site has a blue 'Edit' button near the article title. Anyone can go in and edit copy. I definitely don't want this.

I've looked for options to disable the button but found nothing.

Can anyone offer advice to rectify the problem?

Well, it appears the problem has been resolved. Joomla 4 global configuration has an option under the Sites tab; 'Frontend Editing'. I disabled this but at first it made no difference. Now, after several minutes, the 'edit' buttons are no longer showing in articles.

The question that really concerns me is, how did this options become enabled? Also how and why did the administrator login option suddenly appear on the front end main menu? Surely this is the last thing any web site owner wants to see.

Answering my own post, once again, it appears that the 'blue edit button in articles' scenario is only happening after I've spent some time in the Joomla admin back end making adjustments to the template, modules and articles. It's temporary and clears up once the browser is restarted. It does not affect other browsers on other devices.

Some action is triggering the appearance of edit buttons in articles but I have no idea what the trigger is.

I'm not sure if it's a Joomla bug or SPBP or something else.

Hi there!

Thanks for your query and all these insights.

Usually, the superuser account and the users has administrative access and editing permissions can see the edit icons in the frontend once logged in to the administrator. Can you please check if this edit icon is visible for visitors or publicly, while you do not logged in with superuser or similar?

However, here is all about ACL, and the feature comes from Joomla core: https://www.joomshaper.com/blog/complete-guide-to-joomla-role-based-user-access

Best Regards

Hello!

I am now happy that it is not a serious problem.

The edit buttons are only visible to me on the web site front-end and seem to be triggered when am logged in to the back end admin area as superuser.

However, I have noticed that the edit buttons remain visiable after I have logged out. It's like the Firefox browser needs to be reset (the app closed and reopoened) which is a solution.

I checked browsing via separate devices and the buttons were not visible.

By the way, I am using the latest Firefox version installed on a very old Apple iMac computer running Mac OS High Sierra. I'm uncertain if that is a problem.

Thanks again!
