Reverting From SPPB4 To SPPB 3

Hi, On the SPPB 4 install notes it is very clear that there is no path back to SPPB 3. However having done the upgrade I am having some problems and because of timescales would like to revert to the more familiar SPPB 3. A specific problem I have is that the WarpTheme add-ons do not display correctly on SPPB4 (Not your problem I know) but I do use those on some of my SPPB 3 pages and do not want to have to change all of those so need to wait until they work properly with SPPB 4.

I have seen in some posts that reverting to SPPB 3 does seem to be possible with the only risk being that any pages created or updated in SPPB4 could be a problem. I do not want to risk further disruption to my project by reverting and then having to spend a lot of time doing recovery from the move.

As I have not made any changes to my SPPB pages but have made significant changes to other parts of my site which I do not want to lose by reverting to an earlier backup of the site (before the SPPB4 update). So my question is:

Can I safely reinstall SPPB3 and what process should I follow to do so? Should I uninstall SPPB4 prior ro re-installing SPPB3 or just intall SPPB3? Are there any database changes between the two versions that could result in a database corruption? I will backup the site prior to the change so I can go back to the SPPB4 build if needed but are there any checks I can perform that will show that the reverting has not caused any problems to myu site.

I am a big fan of SPPB and since I don't use the backend a lot for page design was quite looking forward to using version 4 but ideally don't want to go back through all my SSPB 3 pages at this stage to check for problems with some of the add-ins I've used.

Hi Jon,

The most trusted way would be use website backup from day before that you installed SPPB 4.0x. Your hosting have it, in case of you forgot to click "Backup" button. plus use step 2, after.

If somehow you don't want to do this "long" procces and you're 100% sure, than you didn't edit any page, I mean you did not click "Save", you can risk and yes, reinstall with SPPB 3.x - then clear Joomla and browser cache, and pray that database won't be corrupted. But there is extra steps that you have to do BEFORE:

  1. Make full backup
  2. Use FTP tool/file manager and delete/rename that folder : components\com_sppagebuilder\addons

(2) It's becuase SPPB 4.x has more addons, that will not work in SPPB 3.x and will make only mess on the list.

  1. If somehow SPPB behavior will be weird after, please recover only database from day when SPPB 3.x was installed.

In 90% cases it helped. Around 10% in IT is always Las Vegas.

Thanks for the reposnse and guidance Paul, I have been able to fix the problem I had with the WarpTheme additions so have decided to stay with SPPB4 rather than run any risk by doing the reverting to SPPB3. Keep up the great work on SP Pagebulder. Thanks also to WarpTheme who were very helpful even though I am only a user of their free addins.
