After Upgrade Back-end Editor Plugin Conflicts With JCE Editor For Non Super-users

SP Page Builder 4 years ago

I recently upgraded to the new SP Pagebuilder. Most things are working fine. Front-end editor works fine. Back-end editor works fine if using the SP Pagebuilder component. But, the SP Pagebuilder Plugin to edit normal Joomla articles prevents the editor from loading for any permission level below super-user.

Previously, I thought SP might be conflicting with JCE Editor Pro. But, the issue happens on the back end whether I am using JCE, Tiny MCE, or any other editor.

If I disable the SP Pagebuilder plugin, the article loads for editing just fine. So, it's something with the plugin just on the administrator side of Joomla. Please help. This is currently keeping all of my site users from being able to edit articles from the admin area.

I have talked with other developers, and they suggested this is the problem: "how SP Pagebuilder implemented the Joomla ACL system in their extension. It is up the the developers of 3rd party extensions how they implement the Joomla ACL system. So in this case it looks like they require the "configure component" action to access the article in the backend plugin."

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting us. Sorry for the inconvenience. Will you please provide me the Joomla administrator access & FTP access to check the issue? I will check & get back to you soon.

If possible, please capture a screencast video about the full scenario.

-Thanks

You need to check this documentation.

I am well familiar with permissions. I use a permission manager to make sure everything is setup as intended. And everything has worked fine for more than a year using the permissions I have setup. The problem was introduced with the latest update, without making any permission changes. Permissions work fine using SP Pagebuilder on the front end of the website. Permissions work fine using the SP Pagebuilder compoenent on the back end of the website. Both indicate that permissions are not the problem. The thing that breaks is the SP Pagebuilder Plugin when opening a normal article on the back end of the website.

When you have the SP Plugin turned on, it caused a blank white screen with no other information. This issue only recently started. If you watch the video screenshot I emailed to support you'll see what I'm talking about.

I have tried using many different editors now (JCE, Tiny MCE, Codemirror). And, no matter what editor I use, the problem continues. Is it possible for me to get just the older versions of the backend editor plugin to try as a stopgap while this issue is investigated? It has been about 3 weeks since my editors have been able to edit their own content, and this is creating a significant challenge.

What was the point of giving you login information to look at the problem on my website if all you were going to do is look at your own website and say, "Nah, it's all good."

Whether it works on your site or not isn't the issue. The fact that it broke on mine after the upgrade is. The editor works fine on the backend if someone has super-admin privileges even on my website. But, not everyone should have superadmin privileges. It's levels where permissions are intentionally limited that the problem exists.

So, you're telling me there is nothing you can do to help. Is that correct?

I also noticed that in your video demo of your test site that you're not running the latest version of Joomla.

I have had another developer looking into this issue, and here are his thoughts. "So the page is not loading when the Categories permission is not allowed for a group. What I do think is that SP PageBuilder added a functionality in a recent version that added a check for the categories permission. I don't have their extension, so can't check it. But that would explain why the page was loading when: SP Pagebuilder system plugin disabled: because the categories check is no longer there; PWT ACL system plugin disabled: because the non-core Joomla categories permission is no longer there."

Please install a fresh Joomla with the latest version of the page builder. I will show how it works exactly. Don't take it otherwise. Thanks
