Is there a way to incorporate a line of free text in Formbuilder - for instance to create a section heading or explain choices for tickboxes etc?

Free Text - not yet. But you can use that Heading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rNBTnJVicw&t=20s
AND
you can always on the right side publish Text addon and give users some extra informations.
