Variables Dissapearing Upon Error

I don't know if this is supposed to be like this but. I created a product and after making variables I tried to save the product. An error appeared because I have forgotten to choose a category for the product. I chose and saved it afterwards. When I opened the product though all the variables were missing and had to add them again.
