Add An Onclick Attribute To Top Bar Phone Number

Hi Can I add an onclick attribute to the top bar phone number. The code I have has been added to the number where it appears in the contact us page, but when I tried in the template options under Contact Info, it won't display properly. Thanks for any suggestion.
