Hi

Thanks for contacting us. Yes, you can upgrade it. One of our teammates already checked and said, it's ok so far. Helix Ultimate and SPPB 5 work on Joomla_5.3. So I think you can also try it, but please ensure you have a full site backup before making any changes.

-Regards.

Hello.

I managed to update to Joomla 5.3, but I'm having an error that I'm currently addressing on the Joomla forum:

https://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=834&t=1015714

In one of the user's replies, they indicate that some sites with Helix and Fabric templates have failed to update to Joomla 5.3.

In my case, the problem is that I can't access the "System" button (the one with the wrench) and therefore, I can't go to templates, extension management, etc., and it generates the following error:

Warning: require_once(/home/sites/37b/5/58e981ff7b/public_html/includes/app.php): Failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/37b/5/58e981ff7b/public_html/index.php on line 32

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Failed opening required '/home/sites/37b/5/58e981ff7b/public_html/includes/app.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/sites/37b/5/58e981ff7b/public_html/index.php:32 Stack trace: #0 {main} thrown in /home/sites/37b/5/58e981ff7b/public_html/index.php on line 32

The most paradoxical and incredible thing of all is that I have XAMPP 8.2 running on Windows 10 and a clone of the site made with Akeeba Backup, which is running perfectly. It's on the latest version of everything and nothing fails.

This is really blowing my mind.

I upgraded 4 sites, and so far no error on home pages or in admin area. Those sites are based on Helix Ultimate + Linux server + PHP 8.2 / 8.3.1

  • About front-end issues - You can always switch to Casiopea and recheck the front-end.
  • Issues in Admin area - Joomla forum & github & FB ! Sorry, but People on forum.joomla.org often guess why they have errors, they just simplify reality without checking the Debug mode / error logs.
  • You can install raw J5.2.x on localhost then update to 5.3 to compare. You will see what may happen.
  • And indeed, Windows Server is a key to this puzzle.

Unfortunately, but surprises with Joomla updates are not from yesterday, it is part of our existence. Hard life.

Hello Paul, and thank you for your kind collaboration.

I don't like to believe in computer miracles, but in this case, I think they do apply.

I simply didn't do anything else on the website for 24 hours, and when I tried to access the system button again, it showed all its options (manage extensions, manage templates, plugins, etc.).

I don't know what could have happened; perhaps something in Joomla's internal cache or something on the hosting. The fact is that it's working fine now.

It makes me wonder if these types of situations continue to occur in the future, especially when the real cause of the problem is unknown. Perhaps it's best to always have a backup generated from the hosting and create a copy of the website locally via Xampp and recreate it with Akeeba Backup, then run the corresponding tests there.

Joomla by default do not cache for 24h, so it could be your server (hosting) cache settings.

Or, clear cache in cPanel (Host Panel) just after Joomla update. Also Joomla cache, of course.
