SP Page Builder 5 months ago

Hi, After a recent set of updates to Joomla and PageBuilder several PageBuilder pages no longer display correctly in the Front-End though the Backend seems just fine. I have created a backup site with an earlier archive of the pages - where they display correctly, and a second site where they do not.

The older site is Joomla 4.4.2 and SP PageBuilder 5.2.5 The live site is Joomla 4.4.13 and SP PageBuilder 5.5.7

I have implemented upgrades between the two steps in increments but am not sure at which stage the problem first exhibited itself.

I also have a second test site that is updated to Joomla 5 where the same problem persists. The problem occurs on multiple pages

I have cleared cache on both sites and the problem persists. What do I need to do to have the pages display correctly?

Hi Jon Cutter,

Please take my sincere apology. Finally, I found out the reason behind this. The feature box addons image position was not set. If you set the position and save, they started showing again.

Please check the screenshot: https://share.cleanshot.com/S1BfSYT6

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you please share the link to the problematic pages? I have checked some but found no issues. Redirecting to the pages where the issue happens will be good.

Best Regards

The pages affected are behind the firewall so you do need to be logged in to see them. I did include the links to the pages in the 'Hidden section ' of the report together with the credentials to access the pages. The pages in the .com version of the site running the current version of SPPB (5.5.7) DO NOT display correctly. The pages in the .co.uk version of the site using the early version of SPPB (5.2.5) DO display correctly. I'm not sure at what stage between the two releases the problem first occured but in each case the backend of the page appears to hold exactly the same information but the front end display is different.

The problem is affecting several of the SPPB pages in the 'Photos' Section of the website. Namely - Late 60s, Early 70s, Mid 70s, Late 70s, early 80s. It is particularly visible in the 'Mid70s' page where whole sections of the page are missing. Apologies for any confusion.

I have now been back and upgraded the test site - rhc70s.co.uk incrementally between a known good release and the current release. The problem occurred when upgrading from SP PB 4.0 to SPPB 5.0.

I did try to revert the site back to SPPB 4, but that broke the site more thoroughly!!

I am still left with my live site not displaying a number of the Pagebuilder pages correctly. I have no desire to revert the live site back to using an outdated version of Pagebuilder and am in increasing need of a fix.

You can, if you wish, fiddle around with the development site (.co.uk) using the credentials I've provided to see if you can solate the problem. The development site is now running Joomla 4.4.13 (and I updated it to 4.4.13 before applying the Pagebuilder 5 update and it still worked at that point).

Are you able to provide any guidance as to what may have caused the problem when updating to SPPB 5.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Have you removed your site from your .com domain? I have tried to look into that but it says forbidden. Would you please check?

Hi Rashida, Thanks for the response. I'm currently rebuilding the COM domain to do some more testing. Having identified the problem as the upgrade between SPPB4 and SPPB5 and being unable to figure out what the problem was, I decided I had to revert the live site to SPPB4 - but did not want to do that before testing the steps so am currently recreating the live site on COM to achieve to test the steps to do that by uninstalling V5 and reinstalling V4. If that is successful then I'll revert the live site.

My preference is still to get V5 working but cannot continue to have the live site so degraded. Once I've stabilised the live site I'll then continue testing and how I can move to V5 (but more gradually this time round).

The Co.UK site still has the a V4 system on it and is available for looking at - the SPPB pages appear correct there. If you are able to identify what the problem is then that may save me reverting the Live site back to V4 which I plan doing over the weekend.

Rashida, The .COM site is now accessible and is a mirror of the Live site. (With the SPPB pages not displaying correctly). If you wish to test any possible fixes then please do so and I will not apply any changes to it for the remainder of the day.

The Co.UK site does still show the pages correctly with SPPB4.

Thanks for letting me know about it. I think you have full backups. So can I test anything without the fear of data loss?

Hi Rashida, I have now reverted my live site to use SPPB 4.0.11 and the problem with the various tables have gone away and it seems to be functioning correctly again. I still wish to be able to install V5 as there is some functionality in it that I want to use so I still want to be able to overcome the problems shown with V5.

Before doing the changes on the live site, I went through the following stages on the test site (.com)

  1. Uninstalled V5
  2. Re-installed V4 - fixed the problem, which was enough to give me the confidence to apply the steps to Live.
  3. Attempted to reinstall V5 - got a duplicate table error, so the update failed.
  4. Uninstalled V4
  5. Reinstalled V5 - installed correctly but the problem with the fron-end display returned.

So, the test site now has V5 on it and I will leave it like that for now so you can investigate what may be the root cause of the problem (and test) whether there is anyway for me to be able to run V5 succesfully and what I need to do to enable me to use V5 in future.

Since this does not seem to be a common problem I assume that there must be something about some of these pages that must be causing the issue or some corruption in the way some of the database tables are being changed in the move from V4 to V5. My understanding of the database tables is insufficient for me to figure out if this is the problem and what I may need to do to fix it.

As I say, I still want to make use of V5 andf if I need to make some changes to my existing pages to achieve this the I will do so - but need to know what the problem is before I can have confidence that V5 is a sensible move forward.

Is there any update yet om what the root cause of the problem I am having with V5 may be. As I say, I wish to migrate to V5 but without undertsanfing what is causing corruption on many of the pages I am reluctant to do. It is now disrupting my plans to transition to Joomla 5.

Hi Jon Cutter,

Please accept my apology for the long wait.

I have tried to find out the reason behind the disappearing of feature box issue. However, could not made it yet. There are many overrided addon in the sppagebuilder folder in your template. The naming convention made me confused. Is there any override for the feature box adon too?

I have tried to download the full backup, which consists of 6 parts, but it doesn't allow me to download them successfully yet. After a certain period of time, it interrupts. Is there any time limit set in your server side?

Moreover, may I have your FTP access, please?

Best regards,

Hi Rashida,

FTP details attached. Sorry about the naming convention, for the most part the feature boxes all point to a photo album and the name of the person who submitted the album is used as its title. I'm not clear what the overrided add-ons are. I thought I had made fairly standard use of the feature boxes, but it was all a bit of a 'learning on the job' exercise.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.

Regards

Rashida, Thank you so much for identifying this. Prior to version 5 the setting seemed to default to that so I hadn't been as rigouress as I should have to make the setting manually. I'll now start to update the settings on my live site and then I'll be able to update that to V5 as well. Again, thanks so much for persevering with this/ All best

Hi Rashida, My joy and plasure were short-lived!! I applied the changes suggested. I then took a copy of the live site and copied it to a second site so I could test the update to SPPB. In applying the package 'com_sppagebuilder_pro_v5.1.4.zip' (I alsdo tried to do the update with v 5.7.0) I got the following message: JInstaller: Install: Error SQL Duplicate column name 'ordering' Extension installation stopped. danger Error installing component

and then I lost access to all the PageBuilder pages. If I revert to SPPB 4 the pages will then display.

Should I raise this as a new report?

Rashida, I hate to do this but I've found a problem with the install on the live site! If I go to 'dashboard - Components - SP PageBuilder Pro' then the items listed when clicked throw an error. Rather than the usual listing of 'Pages', 'Dynamic Content', 'Media Manager' etc
The listing shows: 'COM_SPPAGEBUILDER_ADMIN,,,,,' for each entry The development sites display correctly
