Joomla 5 + SPPB 6.1.2 Mysql Version

Hi,

I just migrated my websites to Joomla 5, running on SPPB 6.1.2.

I wanted to upgrade MySQL to version 8.1 but my provider doesn't support this version (recommanded version according to Joomla doc).

Could you let me know if Joomla 5 + SPPB 6.1.2 supports MySQL 8.4 or is it better to remain on 8.0.19 ? This is not very clear from the docs I found.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for the update and for sharing the information. That sounds like a sensible approach. Staying on MySQL 8.0.19 for now is the safest option, and you can upgrade once official compatibility with newer versions like 8.4 is confirmed by Joomla and SPPB.

If anything changes or if you need guidance during a future upgrade, we’ll be happy to assist.

Please marked the issue as solved

Best regards

Hi,

Thank you for your question. Joomla 5 and SP Page Builder 6.1.2 officially recommend MySQL 8.1, with 8.0.13+ as the minimum supported version. At this time, neither Joomla nor SPPB documentation confirms compatibility with MySQL 8.4, as this version is not yet listed in their tested or supported environments.

Given that, and since your website is already running smoothly on MySQL 8.0.19, the safest approach is to keep the current version as it is. Remaining on 8.0.x ensures full compatibility and avoids any unexpected issues until your hosting provider offers MySQL 8.1 or Joomla/SPPB officially announce support for newer 8.x releases.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to let me know.

Thanks a lot.

My provider is telling me they are not planning on offering 8.1 as this version is not intended for the general public, as confirmed here :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQL#Release_history

So I guess I'll wait for confirmed compatibility with 8.4 and in the meantime remain on 8.0.19

From what I can see, recommended Mysql for J6 is 8.4, so I'll move to 8.4 after having migrated all my sites to J6.

Thanks
