Language Switcher Settings - Gazette Template - Joomla 5

Hello,

I’m using Joomla 5 with the Gazette template. The Language Switcher shows “ZH” for Chinese, but I want it to display the character “中” instead. I don’t see any option in the module or template settings to change this.

Does Gazette override the Joomla Language Switcher, and is there a recommended way to change the display text from “ZH” to “中” without editing core files?

I also did not find how to have both languages for selection in the dropdown, kindly please advise.

Thank you!

Hi Joon,

indeed a module was overriden, here:

  1. plugins\system\helixultimate\overrides\mod_languages
  2. templates\shaper_gazette\html\mod_languages

Rename those two folders (just add "=" before name), and recheck. If will be the same symbol, it means that is a Joomla or Language problem, not from template.

As I remember, in "Languages: Content" you can set name used in Language module. If not, you can also try Language Override.

Hi Paul,

the renaming of the 2 overrides folders did not help, but I did find a way to change the language full name in Content Language, then set the Language switcher to use Full Language Names.
