AVIF images are the best thing to happen to web development since the JPG was introduced. This powerful new image format supports up to 12-bit color, includes transparency, and produces significantly smaller files than JPG. With support now available in every major browser, AVIF should be the default image format for the web, as it can dramatically improve page load times and performance scores.
Yet tonight, to my great disappointment, SP Page Builder's Media Gallery is broken: it doesnât recognize AVIF files as photos, and when you try to place them into a folder for organization, they end up in âAll Itemsâ as one giant mess. Even if you upload an AVIF file while editing on the front end and it appears to be in the correct folder, after you save and return to that folder, the AVIF file is no longer thereâit has been moved to âAll Items.â
I'm sure that, without bringing in AI, it's a simple one-liner of code to add the image/avif MIME type to the Media Gallery code. I see this issue has been mentioned and left unattended for over a year. It would be great if someone could quickly address this so that developers can correct it in just a few minutes so clients can use AVIF in their usual, organized workflows.
