How To Change The Blog Format

Template 1 day ago

I am using the Justice template. I would like to create a menu item with an "original blog format" using joomla articles .

For the menu i create a Article, category blog. Articles are displayed, but the problem is i cannot format the look. No matter what i do, i get a preformatted format with 1 leading article and 2 singles. It seems i am not able to change the amount or look or anything for the blog display.

Please advice how i can change the display of this blog.

Hello Jeanette,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

In Joomla, when you create a Category Blog menu item (Articles → Category → Blog), the layout and structure—such as Leading Articles, Intro Articles, and Columns—are controlled by Joomla’s menu item settings, not by the template itself.

To change the blog display, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Menus → Your Menu → Edit the Category Blog menu item
  2. Open the Blog Layout tab
  3. Adjust the following options as needed: • # Leading Articles • # Intro Articles • # Columns • # Links
  4. Save the menu item and refresh the page

Please note that Helix Ultimate applies styling to Joomla’s core blog layout, but it does not override Joomla’s blog structure logic. Any structural changes (number of articles, columns, etc.) must be done via the menu item configuration.

If you want a completely custom blog design, you can: • Use SP Page Builder to create a custom blog layout: Check this documentation: https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/sp-page-builder/articles • Or create a template override for the category blog layout Check this:

  1. https://www.joomshaper.com/documentation/helix-framework/template-views-override

If you are not a developer, we will suggest to hire a developer to implement this feature.

Best regards,

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.

I have made many menus before but as mentioned i am not able to change anything regarding the layout when i use this template.

I have just created a new category blog menu item. In the blog layout i have 0 leading articles and 6 intro articles, 3 columns

I refresh the page and it still shows only 2 columns and 3 articles (i have more). It also displays the same layout as on the frontpage. Also it dont shows the articles according to the selected category.

Honestly, i have done this so many times before and now i dont understand a s.. of whats happening (excuse my french) I dont get what i am doing wrong or whats going on.

Please have a look. Here is the menu https://vatnamo.no/nrf/index.php/testing-blog

Could you please share temporary administrator access to your Joomla backend? You can provide the credentials securely in the hidden content section. Also, please take a full backup of your site before we make any changes.

Once I have access, I’ll investigate further and see what’s causing the issue. Let me know once you’ve shared the details!

Best regards,

I can see that you have created a Dynamic Content Article Index page using SP Page Builder. Because of this, SP Page Builder is overriding Joomla’s default Category Blog layout.

That is why you are not seeing the expected behavior when creating a Category Blog menu item—the layout and settings from Joomla are being overrided by the SP Page Builder article index page layout design.

Thanks

Hi, No i have not created a dynamic content article index page using page builder. I have created 4 articles in joomla (not using pagebuilder). I have created a menu item using Article, category blog

You must have checked something else. Please see the menu Testing blog and also check the 4 articles called test 1 test 2 and so on.
