COLOR ISSUE WHEN CHANGING PERMISSION RULES FOR USERGROUP

Today I experienced a problem with all my color settings on the website. (all PageBuilder pages that is)

I've spent half a day now bringing everything back in order.

Then I changed permissions for a single UserGroup - and now the same problem once again.

What is going on?

  • I'm using JCE editor btw. which was updated to latest version yesterday
  • It seems to be the Color Library that is being emptied.
  • Restoring the colors in the library brings the page back to normal

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Could you please share temporary administrator access to your Joomla backend? You may provide the credentials securely using the hidden content section. Also, kindly make a full backup of your site before we proceed with any changes.

Additionally, please share: • The user group you are currently assigned to • The previous user group • A screenshot showing the permission changes

Once I have access, I will investigate the issue further and determine what’s causing the problem.

Please let me know once you’ve shared the details.

Best regards,

The affected user group is CREW.

Currently, the CREW group has no explicit permissions allowed in JCE, and all actions (including Editor Profiles, Global Configuration, and File Browser) are inherited as Not Allowed. This differs from SP Page Builder, where CREW has explicit Create/Edit/Edit Own permissions, allowing it to function correctly.

To avoid JCE switching to a restricted or fallback editor profile (which appears to clear the Color Library), we suggest assigning explicit JCE Editor Pro permissions to the CREW group, similar to SP Page Builder — at minimum: • Access Component • Editor Profiles • File Browser (if required for color/media assets)

This should ensure the same JCE profile and Color Library remain available when ACL permissions are recalculated.

As a troubleshooting step, please also try the following:

  1. Temporarily disable JCE Editor Pro
  2. Clear Joomla and browser cache
  3. Re-enable JCE Editor Pro and verify whether the color library issue persists after changing permissions

This will help confirm whether JCE profile handling is the root cause of the color reset issue.

Please let me know the results.
