If Article addon doesn't have that feature/setting, you have to find alternative module that allows that. And then use it inside Module addon. Make research on JED, as always.

You should integrate this functionnality. It's integrated with all joomla news modules of your competitors. The possibility to hide featured articles is a must!

For example if you sho a featured article with a big image on top. YOu d'ont want it appear under another modules with all the new articles...You should integrate this feature

also there is not a way to show a big photo for the first article of a news module and then smaller ones for the following?

Option 2nd, Use Custom CSS to customize appearance of current view. It all depends on your skills or budget.
