How do you make the classic view you shown in the demo, become the default home page.

I tried for 4 hrs yesterday, i tried everything..I and mean everything, for 4 hours trying to make the classic view in the demo the home page, iechanged the menu item unpublished the old home etc..made the classic menu item the default..and still nothing worked. It kept defaulting back to the way it shows in the demo, which is not even listed as an alternative..

There is NO mention of how to do this the template documentation either, nada, thats where it should be correct?

So I sent an email as an Agency Subscriber, to support@, they sent me back here to post it here, so here i am another 24hrs later.

Hello,

First of all, please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and the time you spent trying to resolve this.

Changing the homepage is not mentioned in the template documentation because it is not a template-specific feature. It is a core feature of Joomla. In Joomla, the homepage is controlled through the Menu Manager by assigning a menu item as the Default Home. The template simply displays whatever page Joomla sets as the default.

The issue you are experiencing is most likely caused by the multilingual configuration that is enabled in the Quickstart package. When multilingual functionality is active, Joomla loads the homepage based on the language-specific default menu item. In this case, a regular default menu item may not take effect if language-specific homepages are configured.

If you do not plan to use a multilingual site, you can resolve this by disabling the following plugins:

  • System – Language Filter
  • System – Language Code

After disabling these plugins, the normal default menu item should work as expected.

If you do need a multilingual website, please follow this guide which explains the correct setup process: https://www.joomshaper.com/blog/how-to-create-a-multilingual-site-in-joomla-4-using-helix-ultimate

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please feel free to let us know if you need any further assistance—we’ll be happy to help.

this is a cop out answer and so very poor ownership of your templating procedures for your custmers.

There are now 'countless ways', repeat, 'countless ways' one can now configure the 'Joomla core' to display a website differently, unfortunately most general users only know of and use a handful.

So what what was is this template designers details? As my client wisheS to send him an invoice for me having to charge him for one of these 'countless ways' this template was configured with the 'Joomla core', without any guidance whatsoever, which I guarentee was released only in the quickstart pkg and not the general template download right?.

Be better at serving and understanding your clients if you want to continue to have them.

Rockteam went a similar route many years ago, I was with them for 10 years till they very made simple template implementation which got them their #1 ranking, btw, they made it harder and harder every release, now they dont rank in the top 3 all that often. Not for simplicity, anyway. Good day.

Hello,

Thank you for your detailed feedback, and I sincerely apologize for the frustration this situation has caused. We completely understand your concern about the time and effort spent configuring the homepage, especially when the Quickstart package behaves differently than the standard template download.

You are correct — the Quickstart package comes pre-configured with Joomla core settings, including multilingual and menu configurations, which are not part of the template itself. The intention of the Quickstart is to replicate the demo site exactly, but we recognize that this can create confusion when users try to modify the layout or homepage without realizing the underlying Joomla core settings in use.

We appreciate your point about simplicity and clear guidance. While Joomla’s core functionality offers flexibility, it can indeed become complex for users who expect the template to behave in a predictable way out-of-the-box. Your feedback highlights the need for better documentation and guidance specifically for Quickstart configurations, and we will take this seriously as part of improving our support resources.

For transparency: the behavior you encountered is specific to the Quickstart package and is not present in the general template download. Any changes to the homepage need to take into account Joomla’s multilingual and default menu settings, as explained previously.

We genuinely value your long-term experience and insights. Your feedback will help us improve both our documentation and customer guidance so that our templates are easier to implement without unnecessary trial and error.

Thank you for your patience and for taking the time to explain your experience. We hope to continue providing tools that are both flexible and easier to use.

Best regards

Thank you also fo your detailed reply and your honesty to see this as an oportunity improve your products and therefore your business model and its performance. I came from a QA background that drove continuous improvement and efficiency, till we bled it. So I will refrain from complete generalization where I can here, however I have been witness to template companies for yes, 17+ years. I have lost count how many times I have asked myself , why am I here at this pro template company? Answers often are, does it have, simplicity? is it striking but is it not too complicated to manipulate? so will it help with project efficiency?, is it easy to create a vision for the client or project I want the template for?. Pretty much all of us out here can handle nice graphics now, right?, so I personally often go back to older more traditional looking templates from here and others, as flashing, moving, twirling, jumping, shining, vanishing and appearing elements do very little to capture my attention, but certainly waste my time trying to configure or delete them. ;) Kind Regards
