EasyStore: Missing Category Module Mentioned In Documentation

I contacted support three months ago to point this out. Unfortunately, to no avail – the option to display categories and subcategories is still missing.

The category module still doesn't exist, even though it's mentioned in the documentation and isn't available either in the installation or separately. It can't be right that all categories and subcategories have to be manually created as a menu.

Every other open-source shop, such as Hika Shop and many others, offers this feature.

Unless a solution is found soon, every euro I spent on the license will be a waste – and I wouldn't recommend it. It's a disgrace to release such flawed shop software.

Hello Slavisa,

First of all, I truly understand your frustration—and thank you for taking the time to explain the situation so clearly. You’re absolutely right to expect a more streamlined way to display categories and subcategories without having to manually build menus.

Regarding the category module, I sincerely apologize for the confusion caused by the documentation. Please share the specific documentation link. I will check and ask the team to update it. At the moment, this feature is not available in EasyStore as a standalone module, and I understand how that can feel misleading and limiting in real-world use.

As for your earlier report—thank you for raising it. I’m going to bring this up with our development team again and make sure your feedback (especially around category/subcategory display and usability) is clearly communicated and prioritized. That said, I want to be transparent: I can’t promise a timeline or guarantee when/if this specific feature will be implemented.

We genuinely value your feedback—it helps us identify gaps and improve the product. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you, and I appreciate your patience so far.

Best regards

Hello, attached you will find the link https://www.ptc-shop.com to our eCommerce website. Unfortunately, it is still in maintenance mode because we cannot go online due to a missing function in the category section. If you require backend access for Joomla, please let me know so I can create a user account with the appropriate permissions.

Sincerely,

S. Dordevic

As I said, category module is not available. I will ask the team to add it very soon. The rest depends on their decision.

Do you have any other issues? Then create an user for me. I will try to help you.

Hello,

We are currently preparing a presentation for the PTC shop on April 8, 2026. The shop is a comprehensive online pharmacy with numerous categories and subcategories. The goal of the presentation is to show the operators how to create categories, subcategories, and products without having to manually create them in separate menus or via additional links.

A key issue is that categories should be visible even when no products have yet been entered. This would allow users to focus entirely on product entry while the structure is automatically available.

Since the necessary category module is currently missing, I urgently need a functional alternative to implement this structure.

Can you help us solve this problem? Due to the tight deadline, we would be very grateful for a prompt response.

If any additional costs are incurred for implementation, please send me a brief overview of the expected extra expenses.

Sincerely, Slavisa

Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed context—understood on the urgency given your April 8 presentation.

At the moment, I’m afraid the specific functionality you’re describing—a dedicated category module that allows categories/subcategories to be managed and displayed independently of products—is not available yet. This is already noted as a feature request, and it is planned for future development, but we don’t have a confirmed timeline to share right now.

What you can do currently

As a workaround, categories can still be structured and assigned via the Joomla menu system. However, this does require manual setup:

  • You’ll need to create menu items for categories and subcategories individually.
  • These menu items can then be used to expose the structure on the frontend, even before products are added.

While this approach doesn’t fully automate the workflow as you described, it does allow you to present a predefined category hierarchy during your demo.

About custom implementation

We understand your use case, especially for a structured shop like a pharmacy. However, we don’t offer custom development or paid implementation services for such features. So unfortunately, we’re unable to provide a tailored solution or cost estimate for this requirement.

Practical suggestion for your presentation

Given your deadline, the most reliable approach would be:

  • Pre-create your category structure via menus
  • Optionally add placeholder/dummy products (if needed for demonstration purposes)
  • Focus the presentation on product entry within an already-prepared structure
