Upgrade Path From SP Page Builder 3.8.10 To Newer Versions.

SP Page Builder 1 week ago

Hello everyone,

I am currently running:

  • Joomla 5.4.6
  • PHP 8.3.31
  • SP Page Builder 3.8.10

The website works correctly with SP Page Builder 3.8.10 and all pages load and function normally.

However, when I try to update SP Page Builder to the next available version (which appears to belong to a different update branch starting from version 4.x), I start experiencing issues and the website becomes unstable.

Before proceeding further, I would like to know:

  • Has anyone successfully upgraded from SP Page Builder 3.8.10 on Joomla 5?
  • What is the recommended upgrade path?
  • Is it necessary to pass through intermediate versions before upgrading to newer releases?
  • Are there any known compatibility issues between SP Page Builder 3.8.10 and the versions in the next update branch?

Any advice or recommendations from users who have gone through this migration would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello PAULA123AMARAL,

Thank you for reaching out to our technical support forum. I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing.

It is not mandatory to update to SP Page Builder 4. You can just download SP Page Builder 5 and install on SP Page Builder 3. But I would suggest to take a backup and work on localhost first. If the update goes well, then upload it to the production server.

Best regards

Thank you for your reply.

I attempted to install SP Page Builder 5 over version 3.8.10, but during the update process I received the following error:

"Duplicate column name 'is_favorite'"

After the failed update, Joomla now reports SP Page Builder as version 6.0.0, but the component is no longer accessible and generates errors when opened.

Could you please advise if there is a recommended procedure to resolve this database conflict and recover the installation before attempting the upgrade from 3.8.10 to 5.x again?

Is there any specific database repair or cleanup process recommended by JoomShaper in this situation?

Thank you.

I need to check the issue. Please share your administrator access here. Use the Hidden Content box to share the credentials. I will take a backup and try to upgrade on my localhost.

Were you able to access the website and hosting account using the credentials I provided?

I would just like to confirm that the access details are working correctly and check whether there has been any progress in the analysis of the SP Page Builder upgrade

Please let me know if you encounter any issues or need any additional information.

Hello Ofi,

I have reinstalled Akeeba Backup, and the backup is now available and working correctly.

To make things easier, I will also leave a copy of the backup in Google Drive and share the download link in the Hidden Content section

Please let me know if you need anything else to proceed with the investigation.

Thank you for your assistance.

I have checked the backup in my localhost and updated SP Page Builder 6 on the site. The issue is with your template. You are using a third-party template which heavily customized SP Page Builder. Please contact your template provider to support the latest SP Page Builder version. If you switch Casseopeia, then everything will work fine.

I have shared the backup in the hidden content. Please check it.

Hello Ofi,

I would like to sincerely thank you for your effort and assistance throughout this case.

In the end, I had to work directly with the developer to complete the SP Page Builder upgrade, but your analysis and guidance were essential in helping me understand the issue and reach the final solution.

I truly appreciate the time and attention you dedicated to investigating the problem.

Thank you very much for your support.

Best regards, PAULA123AMARAL
