Please add webp support to template. Or at least add possibility to remove default logo. Now to have webp logo i create modules with images and place them in logo possition. But that is not enough i need to add or placegolder pixel image or add to logo text transparent css.
It was not so with helix 1.3
Please add webp support to helix template and or remove url or default logo

Marked as the solutionHi Igors.
Just advice. Using Webp is not so easy. IOS does not support it before the current version. Therefore, you need to use <picture> with srcset containing multiple image formats but not simple <img>
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/picture
There are plugins for Joomla automatically making it with all existing images on the site, and generate a Webp. But it slows down the site.
Webp format overvalued. It does not win at well compressed JPG or PNG

Hi
Thanks for your suggestions. Could you please give me a demo of what type of actually do you need? So that I can add it to our feature request list
-Regards
HI Igors, as know you can use svg logo in Helix Ultimate options, many users use it already.
For example random user from today: https://forteinnovations.com/
ABout logo URL you can edit template file to remove it, edit here:
templates\shaper_helixultimate\features\logo.php
But most webmasters thinks that URL in logo is a useful feature, and used on 3/4 websites around the World.
Hi Paul. When i create custom module with logo i add url too.
<div class="logo"><a href="/en/"><img class="logo-image" width="162" height="80" src="/images/logo-m.webp" alt="ursus.lv" /></a></div>
And usualy it is easy to change file format from jpg to webp but dificult to crate svg. Just changing to svg is not a correct way.
Also i would be good if you add image parammeters to template logo.
You can always rename extension name (from webp to png) and cheat Joomla to choose correct image.
By now It's the faster way for website logo. Think out the box.
But yes, I will ask about it.
Hi Paul, thanks for replay. I try to get maksimum score on google page speed tool. Do not care much about older iphones. If google will ask some other format i will use that :).
I noticed that pages with higher score have better possitions. Part of this is or native svg or webp images.

It would be good or add webp support to template or alow to remove logo complitely so we can use custom module in logo possition.
So JCH is a winner.

You can use DJ-Webp
Hi Jens. Try measuring the speed before installing DJ-Webp and after. I think you will be disappointed

Ok. If you converted already compressed, it is possible to achieve good performance but with loss of quality.
Here is a pure experiment.
- jpg right from pixabay.com 597kb > convert via convertio.co to webp = 577kb
- jpg right from pixabay.com 597kb > compress via iloveimg.com > output jpg = 361kb

About DJ-Webp. I tested on real hosting and the results were not impressed with me.
I use photoshop and webp addon, result is very good.

If you really use images of this size on your website, then you are doing something fundamentally wrong. ;)
Hi Jens. I did not say that I use it on the site. It was just a pure experiment.
But... there is nothing wrong to use such images. It all depends on the design.
Would you possibly provide the page where you found the problem and how much slower it became due to the extension?
I have long been tested and did not save the results.
But if we think logically:
By default, there is an <img> containing a static link to the image.
When we turn on the plugin as a DJ-Webp, on first start, it collects all images from the site, converts them, with each reboot of page, it adds at least srcset in <img>. By the correct, it must delete all <img> s and replace them on <picture> with <source> and <img> inside.
I do not think that the execution of the script will win at the static link. And I was convinced of this when testing. If I knew that the result would be required as an argument, I would save it :)
And an important point. I did not test the speed of the full page, only the speed of the first render for user interaction. And this indicator was worse with DJ-Webp.
Perhaps the speed of the entire page is faster by reducing image sizes. But not the first render. I consider this indicator most important. This was especially manifested in interactive components, such as carousels, galleries and similar.
