why no desktop columns setting?

Which template are you using? What exact setting you are talking about? Can you please give us a screenshot of the exact query so that we can understand it on point?

Desktop is default (!) in Columns.

Deafult column grid is for desktop/laptop view.
So no need to add extra settings.
Don't make simple things complicated, KISS rule.
