Dynamic Content: Article Detail Page won't display if Article is set to SPPB layout

Asked by Udo Richter 1 month ago Last activity 1 week ago

Hi there,
I wanted to set up a Team page via New Article Page in SP Pagebuilder.

In the /article/:slug I build a section that should display the intro image, article title, article category and custom fields. Below that I wanted to display the content of the article in the sppb layout - and I thought that's what "SPPB layout" as a field source in Dynamic Text is for.

It doesn't work though. On the /article index page, the collection correctly links to /article/:slug. But this seems to get ignored if the joomla article is set to Pagebuilder layout. It just opens the article itself, it doesn't embed it into the article detail page. Only if I set the article to the joomla editor will it correctly display the article/:slug.

Is this the intended behaviour or is this a bug? It would be really great if the Article Dynamic Content could work in tandem with Joomla articles in Pagebuilder layout.

(I cannot use Dynamic Content Collections directly because I need to be able to set unpublish dates for team members and unfortunately neither dynamic content nor pagebuilder pages offer the functionality to disable pages at a certain date)

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you please describe a bit more and share a screencast illustrating the whole scenario? It will help us to understand the issue better.

Moreover, what do you mean by

joomla article is set to Pagebuilder layout

Did you mean, Joomla article integration in SPPB settings?

Best regards,

Yes, I mean using a joomla article with SPPB integration. I put a link to a screencast in the hidden area. (I'm only showing am example environment) I didn't have the time to make it pretty but I hope it's understandable what I mean. If not I'll have to make a more detailed screencast after the weekend.

Shortly:

  • I went into the SP Page Builder component and created an Index page via "+Add > New Article Page > Index"
  • then I created a Detail page via "+Add > New Article Page > Detail Page" and had it display fields from a Joomla article like Intro image, title, category, etc.
  • I linked the collection in the Index page (/articles) to the Detail page (/articles/:slug)
  • If it's just a regular Joomla article, everything is displayed correctly when viewing the detail page in front-end.
  • If I switch the editor in the Joomla Article to SP Page Builder, it no longer uses the /article/:slug page to display the content, it only shows the Joomla article.

Still waiting for an answer here if this is the intended behaviour and you just can't use dynamic articles with SP Pagebuilder integration (which then I would highly request to be made possible) or if this is a bug.

Hi Udo,

Sorry for the unwanted delay, and thanks for the screencast.

I tried to reproduce this on a fresh installation with SP Page Builder 6.9.1 and Joomla 6.1.2. I set up an Article Index (/articles) and an Article Detail page (/articles/:slug), and used a Dynamic Text with the "SPPB Layout" source for the content. Articles using the SP Page Builder editor displayed correctly inside the Article Detail page, with their Page Builder layout in the SPPB Layout field. So the two are meant to work together, and it isn't a limitation.

Could you please check the following?

  1. Update SP Page Builder to the latest version (6.9.1), then clear the Joomla cache.
  2. Make sure the Article Detail page is saved and published after the changes.
  3. Tell me which SP Page Builder and Joomla versions you're using.

If it still happens after updating, please share temporary admin access in the hidden content area and we'll check your setup directly.
