Embedded Video Background Setting Illegal Cookies

SP Page Builder 3 years ago

We have Page builder running in our web site https://vine.eu/en and we have added video background to top part of the page.

We just noticed that this video background does use cookies even when there is no consent from the visitor. This is forbidden in GDPR law and can cause sanctions.

How do we prevent the video to set any cookies?

From the google I can see that no-cookie embedding is possible, but Pagebuilder does not have any options to set this on. For example here https://axbom.com/embed-youtube-videos-without-cookies/

I think the Pagebuilder should have option to prevent the cookies orit should always use the noookie version of the script

If I may....

@Vine - I think it's would be much safer, if we talk about GDPR law - if you will not use any of Google services on your site. No Google Fonts nor YouTube (Google) - this is a recommendation from German webmasters, where the law is more restricted, and cookie module/plugin is not a protection against a lawsuit.

As @Toufiq said, on the forum we cannot change SPPB code, we can only ask our developers for update.

Hi Paul

yes, I agree it would be good to use some GDPR-compatible alternative to Youtube....however SP Pagebuilder does support additionally only Vimeo and it's from USA too, so I guess it does have the same legal problems as Youtube too.

Also Vimeo does have similar option as Youtube to work without cookies with dnt=1 param - is it supported?

In any case we would like to keep the video background in the page... so suggesting to get rid of Youtube is not really an answer to workaroung the GDPR problem we have currently. We'd need some specific instructions how to handle this with Pagebuilder legally.

100% GDPR right - would be:

  1. Use Google Fonts loaded from your server
  2. All videos loaded from your server or EU alternative of YT/vimeo....

German webmasters since Jan 2022 - have to do this, otherwise .... possible huge fine from DE court.

But I agree with you that it would be nice to have sort of alternative bg video with cookie stop on/off.

The question still remains - how to add GDPR legal background video in SP Pagebuilder?

To me it looks like this is not possible now. And if not possible, then this is a problem in the Pagebuilder which should be fixed by developers. I though that Joomshaper is the developer of Pagebuilder, not the case?

@Jens, I think @Vine have seen that options, but he asked us about youtube. And he had a good reason to use external video resourse.

@Jens + others

I have totally missed the option to have the video embedded locally. However, this is not optimal, but I guess only way to go now if it works. We'll try that

And it would be really good to have GDPR-legal way to embed videos from some external service like Youtube.

Thanks!
