Disable Google Fonts In Template Settings

Template 3 years ago

Hi, I have a strange problem with disabling the google fonts in the template settings.

I have 2 websites that are basically identical. Only the text content is slightly different. Both websites are based on the template "Finion".

For the first page, I still have the Pagebuilder with version 3.8.3 installed. Here I can deactivate the Google fonts in the template settings and all fonts are displayed correctly.

On the second website, the Pagebuilder with the version 3.8.6 is installed and here, when deactivating the headings h3 and h4, a system font is displayed instead of the font used: "Noto Serif".

The css for the fonts is identical and so are the folders for the fonts.

What could be the problem here?

Thanks!

Hi,

In general, check also if you don't have Google Fonts enabled in Template Options - Typography.

Also it's much better to disable Google Fonts in addons (one by one), our option is mostly for those who want to STOP editors from using Google Fonts. But also should disable loading Google Fonts from SPPB. At least it works on my sites (v386, older versions had problems with module editions).

As German webmaster you should know that using Google Fonts from Google US server is VERY risky, and site owner can pay a high fine. Cookie module cannot help for that.

German court case (LG München, Urteil vom 20.01.2022, Az. 3 O 17493/20)

Hello Paul, thanks for the quick reply. The problem is not that I do not know how to disable the google fonts. I have now done that (because of the court ruling from Munich) on all my pages. It has always worked with pagebuilder->version 3.8.6. The problem with the mentioned page is, that the css rules to get the fonts locally are not working with the h4. Now I found out, that it is related to turning off the "custom font". This must be turned on for the "Noto serif" font to be loaded. I deleted all custom selectors defined in it by Joomshaper and entered a fake custom selector ".test" which is not defined in css. https://prnt.sc/jlzd0iflk0mv

If I save it like this with "Custom Font" enabled the font "Noto serif" is displayed: https://prnt.sc/MzFgSLhEdwRm

If I deactivate the "Custom Font" the font is not displayed: https://prnt.sc/iLsn6XhMFFV1

Any idea how can I resolve that?

Thanks!

But Font Awesome are not Google Fonts !! Please do not mix - not realted products. Font Awesome are 100% safe, becuase they are loaded from your server, or at least should be. You can set in Template Options and SPPB Options.

On your 1st link (prosce... de) - Indeed Google Fonts are loaded, which is BAD according to German law.

I do not mix them. I'm talking about, that the local fonts "Lato" and "Noto" are not loading. Thanks

Tip about custom fonts. Becuase you have two language versions and Joomla uses extra alias lang, I suggest inside custom.css file use full path to font files. I mean with domain name and https. Than it will work 100%, of course if firewall will not lock them.

You forgot to disbale Google FOnts in Default DE template - Template Options - Typography - every where was enabled, Oh, I told you to double check.

Now Google Fonts are loaded only from custom.css, your server - as we wanted since beginning :)

Hello Paul,

thank you for your answer. Yes, you are right, the Google Fonts were activated in the default DE template, because when I deactivate them, the Google Font "Noto serif" is not displayed!!!!

I was aware of that and pointed it out.

The font that is now displayed when Google Fonts are deactivated is not "Noto Serif" ! You can see it best with the words "Wenn Menschen": https://prnt.sc/j_g7PzGazMJd

This is what it looks like when "Noto serif" is activated: https://prnt.sc/n8iQVeFkrOjj

You can see a clear difference!

I have now left the Google Fonts deactivated so that the impression does not arise again that I have not understood the principle of deactivation.

I hope my problem is clearer now.

Many thanks

share link to URL from where you made 1st screenshot with the words "Wenn Menschen...."

I will try to find a reason, probably there is small mistake somewhere (in your CSS code?)

BTW

check below link #1, do you see there Noto Serif ? If yes, it means in link #2 for text "Wenn Menschen sich treffen, ob virtuell...." should be used as well. ANyway, I created you a compare page ;p with this same sentence.

sorry, but I am "blind" today. Can we back to this in weekend.

In 3 (test page) I used this same font path that was used in 1.

I don't have any ideas, zero null

Yes sure. Also on monday. Please let me know, if you have any brilliant idea.

FYI: I have now re-enabled the Google Fonts so that the page is displayed with the correct fonts again. Please note.

Thanks

By now I renamed custom.css into override.css - to load it as the last css file.

I will check one more thing.

I tested fonts on my private site and worked, yes, I also have rsfirewall. Many users used this same method before also with sucess.

everything seems to be OK with CSS, sorry I don't know.

Maybe ask on Joomla DE Facebook fanpage ... something small is missing but I am blind

Hello reklamewerkstatt,
please excuse me for butting in here.
I would like to help with this.
Is there any possibility that you make the page in question public, I would like to check it once.
Also, please disable Google fonts on the page again.
I have a rough suspicion where the problem may lie.
I don't need access to the backend for the check if the page in question is accessible normally.

Have a nice evening

best regards

Hello Paul,

I don't know why, but I have ignored the topic for a few days now. Did everything again (without changes) and now it works.

Thanks for the support!
