Video Addon Accessibility Issue?

Hello,

Is it possible to add a text alternative to a video added with the video addon? I do not see any field for it in the addon. However, Siteimprove detects an accessibility issue: Inline frame without a text alternative.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you

Hello Eehtaz,

For example, on this page: https://saea-tlss.uottawa.ca/en/course-design/online-course, all the vidoeo are identified by Siteimprove as an accessibility issue (see attached screen capture). It request to have a text alternative, for example something like this: title="online courses video step 1"

Thank you.

Sorry this feature is not available right now. But I will note it down in our feature request list so that our DEV team will take care of it.

-Regards.

If I may....

We talked about that same topic few days back here on the forum, and indeed, by default is not possible. Small customization of Video addon code is needed, and I asked our developer about that already, and should be implemended in SPPB 4.0.6 as I know.

OR

You would use YouTube embed code inside Raw HTML addon. Of course only by now.

If somehow you cannot wait any longer ... we can prepare temporray addon for Validator Pass purposes, for example, tomorrow. Just let me know, how urgent that small issue is for your project?

As I can see, Paul, you mentionne SPPB 4.0.6. However, we decide to sticl qith versiuon 3.x since version 4 (which is a treamandous good product) make us loose some very practical things for our use case (for example the filter by categories on the main page) and the way you need to grab personal addons and sections is not as intutive/easy than with version 3.

Do you think that you would also make the customization of Video addon code required for version 3.x?

Thank you!

yes, sure. No problem, just let me know.

Quick Question: in typical page, how many videos addons you uses?

It depends; we can have pages such as this one: https://saea-tlss.uottawa.ca/en/teaching-technologies/virtual-campus-brightspace-for-instructors with only one video, but we also propose pages with a whole bunch of video tutorials: https://saea-tlss.uottawa.ca/en/teaching-technologies/virtual-campus-brightspace-for-instructors/brightspace-video-tutorials.

We may use another way to place them on the page (with, for example, the pure HTML addon), but it is less practical. we sometimes have no technical people editing those pages/videos, etc.

Thanks
