New SP Page Builder Install Didn't Pick Up Joomla Categories

SP Page Builder 2 years ago

I've just installed SP Page Builder Pro. My pre-sales inquiry and the Joomla Documentation link in SP Page Builder Pro, indicate that the product should pick up my Joomla categories. I have 31 Joomla Categories that were established before the new install, SP Page Builder didn't pick up any of them. It did pick up the tags. My site design relies heavily on categories and tags. The categories are long and quite involved so recreating them is not simple. That's why the pre-sale question was asked. I sent an email for support right after I installed the product and noticed the problem. I was instructed to post here. What do I need to do to have SP Page Builder pick up the categories? Thanks."

Hi there!

Sorry for your issue.

SP Page Builder pages doesn't recognize Joomla catgories. But you can create your Joomla articles with SP Page Builder editor as SPPB provides article integration facility. So, if you create articles with SPPB then these articles will pickup Joomla categories.

Hi,

Your response is different from the response to my pre-sale questions on Categories and Tags. I'll have to reconcile what this means for my project but on the surface two separate Category systems appear to add complexity.

If what you say is correct, • What was the design rational for adding a Category structure for SP Page Builder which was separate and distinct from the Joomla Category structure? • In other words: What benefits do developers and their users derive from a second separate Category structure in SP Page Builder?

• Why does SP Page Builder integrate with Joomla Tags but not Joomla Categories?
• In other words: What is Joomshaper's expected use of Joomla Tags and SP Page Builder Tags that is not expected with the Joomla Categories or the SP Page Builder Categories?

Lastly, and by far the most important, why do I have questions/ open issues, now, after I've bought the product? As both Categories and Tags are relied on heavily in my site, I specifically asked about them in pre-sale questions. Email responses stated that SP Page Builder "integrates with Joomla default features". Now they don't?

Hi

As confirmed by you via email, your response taking over six days was outside of your stated support window of two business days. It should be noted that the original and follow-up questions remain open. After a time, you eventually required me to ask my question on your forum. As such I'll email you and post on the forum to cover all bases.

A response appearing to be written by a Joomshaper tech (Rashida Rahman) contradicted pre-sale responses to questions I asked before I bought SP Page Builder.

While product sales are most important to a vendor, timely support (in a production environment) is critical to a purchaser.

I am in a production endowment. i don't have time to babysit unresolved issues or visit them more than once. In addition, due to subpar Joomshaper customer support, my refund period continues to decline and is now down to nine more business days. I need an accurate and timely response, as quick as possible. If you can't or won't provide it, I'll have no choice but to require a refund. It isn't personal.

This would be unfortunate as your product looks good. I say locks good because I can't risk using it until I can see added value going forward.

Backstory

My site uses Joomla Categories and Joomla Tags extensively. My presale questions (April 14) identified this and I asked about the integration and use of Joomla Categories and Joomla Tags in SP Page Builder. The pre-sale response received declared that SP Page Builder "integrates with Joomla default features". Both Categories and Tags are default features. The response from Rashida Rahman, indicated that categories ARE NOT picked up by SP Page Builder unless they are inserted into Joomla articles.

In response to Ms. Rahman's comments and links I asked (paraphrased):

  1. Why does SP Page Builder integrate with Joomla Tags but not Joomla Categories? In other words: What are Joomshaper's expected use scenarios for Joomla Tags and SP Page Builder Tags that are not consistent with Joomla Categories and SP Page Builder Categories?

  2. What benefits do two separate Category systems deliver to the developer/ users? Two distinct mechanisms for what appears to be the same thing seems to add complexity to site maintenance and development, but since SP Page Builder uses Joomla Categories through the Joomla Article system, I am hopeful that there is an added benefit I don't yet see.

Please advise.

Hi Robert,

Sorry for the unwanted delay.

About reason of adding it. That feature was added to help webmaster to manage content, especially if they work in bigger groups of editors. So Editor A take care Category A, and Editor B its ow Category B. Some site owners have 200 or more pages, then it helps to manage and find page.

Besides categories have "Access" field so you can manage access level (ACL).

And It was not created as categories in Articles where you can use them on front-end, sorry about that.

Have a nice day!
